Allie was great communicating the intricacies of the process and answered our questions with clarity and specificity. We feel she did a great job at educating us and representing us. The process was smooth and proceeded without any significant hitches. That said, after mutual acceptance, that level of communication with Redfin dropped off a bit and we had to engage in more DIY self-service as a result. |

At the time we were getting close to putting in an offer, we heard it was generally a very busy time in the housing market. Because of this, we asked Allie if she had enough time to take on another client and she assured us that she could. We didn't get much information about the neighborhood, comparable homes, and features. We realize this may not be part of what Redfin offers and we had done our own homework but hoped for a little bit more than we got as we made an offer. Later on we felt, and our lender and escrow told us, that Redfin wasn't being responsive to requests for information or documents. In the end everything worked out well. Allie definitely seems personable and very competent, but we were left feeling that our Redfin team had too much on their plate for the service we needed. They may get more lead agents soon, and that could help. |

Allie exemplifies the Redfin mission & purpose, which we fully support, so our expectations were met. We had some difficulties dealing with the old school agency which represented the seller, and our negotiation strategy backfired. Nonetheless Allie was able to close the deal. Allie is smart and dedicated which explains her popularity; however she carries too many clients concurrently so she has to spread herself a bit thin. Regardless we are ready to espouse the virtues of redfin to our friends and family and break free of the secretive and overindulgent world that is traditional real estate brokerage. |

I have to mention that is was actually Corey doing 90% of the work duing my closing. This was a super tough closing due to issues with the lender, and for the most part Corey did a good job of following up with the lender and 'crackign the whip' when needed. Allie, as I mentioned, was there to assist with the negotiation before agreement signed but the bulk of the service was performed by Corey again because closing was SO protracted.

Allie was too busy to be able to give us good service. Here is what happened in our situation. In the process of negotiating, Allie called and left me a voicemail telling me what the counteroffer was and that I should respond asap b/c our deal was through a relocation compamy that was located on the east coast that closed at 2 PM our time and that Allie wanted to get back to them asap. I got back to her by the time she asked me to and got her voicemail saying she was in a meeting for the rest of the day and would be returning calls in the evening or the next day. That was frustrating b/c I rushed to get her what she needed at her request, and she wasn't available when she said she would be. Also, when we originally scheduled the inspection--10 days before we had mutual acceptance (b/c we needed to make sure it would be at a time that we could attend), we told Allie when it was. A day or two before the inspection she had someone from Redfin call our inspector to change the time from 10 AM to 2 PM. He couldn't do it at the later time. (And neither could we, but Redfin didn't ask us.) After finding out that they tried to change the time and that they might have to cancel it b/c they couldn't find someone to be at the house to let the inspector in, we called the listing agent and asked him if he could do it and told Redfin that we had asked him directly. Redfin then found someone who could do it, and asked how long it would take. I told Allie that the inspector had done a few inspections for us, was very thorough, and had estimated that it would take 4-5 hours. Allie thought it shouldn't take that long. It seemed that she wanted it to be shorter, but I told Allie that in my experience (two previous inspections) with this guy that was how long it was likely to take. In the end, Redfin had Dorcas come and she was pleasant and helpful and stayed the whole time, but we didn't know until the night before whether or not someone would be there to let him in. It was stressful for us b/c we have a professional relationship with this inspector, and I was afraid that I would have to cancel on him at the last minute. After we got mutual acceptance, Dorcas sent us an email with important dates and timelines. I was told the dates and timelines were calculated by Allie, our agent. The date for the deposit of our earnest money was wrong, and it took me a few phone calls, emails, and conversations with people to sort it out. One of those calls was to her assistant Corey b/c Allie was in meetings for two days in a row and couldn't be reached. He returned my call and said that I shouldn't worry about the due date for the deposit of the earnest money because he has rarely seen a deal fall through b/c the earnest money was late. I was shocked by that response. It's not professional. And the deal may not have falled through b/c our earnest money was late, but it was our money and it is not always easy to get earnest money returned if the deal doesn't go through. I had every right to expect Redfin to propoerly calculate that date and look it up for me to verify it if I thought it was incorrect. I asked Dorcas to find someone to look it up on our contract and figure it out and call us back. Dorcas, again, came through for us and clarified it. (It was incorrectly calculated by Allie.) We had our inspection on Saturday 9/12. We got our report that night and forwarded it to Allie on Sunday night asking for her advice on what to get secondary inspections on and what we could reasonably ask the sellers to give us money off for. She emailed on Monday morning saying we should talk later in the week about it. We kept calling and emailing her asking for advice, but she was in meetings all day Monday and Tuesday and didn't get back to us. She didn't get back to us until Thursday, 9/17 and then only did after we had talked to Dorcas and her boss and asked them to have her call us back. We had until Friday 9/18 to respond to the sellers about the inspection, and if we hadn't gone ahead on our own and asked a contractor to come in and inspect everything listed in the inspector's report and give us quotes for it, we wouldn't have had time to do it after hearing back from Allie! We were looking for advice from Allie and didn't get it soon enough to act on it. After complaining to Allie's boss about our experience with her, her boss said that Redfin was growing quickly and didn't have enough employees to properly handle the client load. We experienced that. In the end we got the house and a refund of 1.5%, so it worked out. And because there are so few competitors offering 1.5% back on the purchase of a home, it is likely we would use Redfin again if the situation were the same. That said, it was not an easy or pleasant experience, overall. |

For being a self-service shop, using Redfin with Allie as our agent was an overall enjoyable experience. For those who need more hand-holding, we wouldn't necessarily recommend using Redfin. Our main constructive feedback is that Allie wasn't always readily available to answer questions in a timely fashion and drive to resolution of all issues. This was likely due to time pressures on agents stemming from Redfin's staffing model, which is outside of Allie's control. When we did speak with Allie, our interactions were always positive, and we felt comfortable that she was looking out for our best interests. I would use Redfin and Allie again, but would only recommend Redfin to those who would be a good fit for this approach to buying real estate. |

I was in contact with Allie long before our first offer and she was really helpful in answering all our first time homebuyer questions. When time came, Allie worked hard on our offers through the weekend and nights, and even while she was away. She was available to talk but sometimes our phone conversations were cut short cause her cell would run out of battery, so please Redfin give Allie a new cell! There was some frustration dealing with the escrow after mutual agreement, not Allie's fault. I did find out that Redfin have a few contracts with this escrow company and that it is well known that communication is poor. It took a lot of hard work from our side to get the information we wanted from them, it would have been nice to have had some warning about using that escrow company and somehow tried to avoid a lot of frustration. Our overall experience with Redfin was extremely poor from a customer service perspective. They did ultimately help us to close the deal and were quick with the refund, however there were MANY gaps in the overall experience and would never recommend using this service. Twice Allie never responded to an email and multiple times was slow to respond to email. There were multiple times she was not accessible by phone and again sometimes slow to respond. During the entire process, there was an overwhelming feeling of not knowing what is going on. We felt more like she was doing a some sort of favor rather then we were paying her for service. I was never even told that there were be yet another person to close the deal (Corey). We kept getting passed from person to person which left such an inpersonable experience. The amount of unneccesary stress we had due to not knowing what our status was in addition to the consistent amount of documents that we had to keep signing was far beyond what we expected. This really left a bad feeling with us.
Allie's Response
We strive to keep our clients well-informed and connected with their agent throughout the process. There are times when our agents are out of the office on vacation but we never want our client's experience to suffer as a result. In this case we were not effective in providing great coverage while Allie was out of the office or in explaining how our agents work as a team after a deal reaches mutual acceptance. Since this transaction, we've changed our agent schedule in a way that now allows the agent to be more consistently available to our clients and minimize the handoffs that are necessary during a transaction. |

If you know where (location) and type (condo or other) you're buying then Redfin is a very good choice. Their service is commendable and as a first time buyer I could ask all kinds of questions. Allie is dependable, resourceful and professional. |

We loved the independant bent of the service. We like to be in on all the details ourselves so this worked well. We loved the refund (savings.) That was totally worth some of the hassle. The hassle that was inconvenient, but may be unavoidable, was 1) scheduling tours out far enough ahead to get the time we wanted. (more field agents!) and 2) if your closing etc. hits durring a shift change between senior agents, it becomes difficult to keep track of who you should be talking to. Having the person filling in for your agent email when they are taking over to let you know who you can call, and then another email from your agent when they are back would be good. Otherwise all agents, field and senior, all seemed to truely try to help in any way they could. |

I have really enjoyed working with everyone at Redfin. The people are wonderful. The only downside I have found is availabilty. Often times it may take 4 or 5 days for an agent to be available to go on a home tour, and then if you find a home you like, it may take another couple days to be able to get an offer in. |

The site could be improved. A subtle but powerful improvement would be a feature to add a listing to a "Dont Show" list. Kind of like a favorites, but saying you dont want that house to show up in the view.There were times when I saw a house, didnt like it, and had to filter it out again when I came back to the site to look at other houses. |

The property we bid on was a short sale. We were lead to believe that we had a wriiten acceptance on our offer. We were advised to get the home inspection by our agent at a cost to us of $450. We were not informed that we only had a verbal agreement from the sellers bank. In the end the bank backed out and we lost the $450 we paid for the inspection. It would be nice if short sales were very clearly explained either on the website or by the agents working the short sales. |

Upon getting assigned an agent, I received a letter of the home buying process. It would be nice to have that fleshed out a little more since it has been a long time since I bought a house. In addtion, I was unsure during the process of the roles and responsibilities that Allie had versue Melissa. It would be nice to know who does what as the process proceeds so when I had a question I would have asked the correct person to avoid wasting the other persons time.

I just wanted to say that Allie was wonderful in helping a first time buyer, and a new transplant to Seattle with EVERY step of the buying process. She was very frank about trying her best to structure the offer to get for me a deal that was acceptable to me and her guidance about the merits of specific properties over others was in valuable.I would also like to say that Melissa Smith went ABOVE and BEYOND the call of duty as a transaction coordinator. Originally we thought my loan would be a smooth transaction since I provided a great deal of detailed supporting documentation prior to even contacting Redfin (for my prequal letter). However after we got mutual acceptance it was difficult to get adequate communication from my loan officer. It was Melissa who helped me navigate and endure through the many hoops that we had to jump to finally acheive financing approval in the end. Without her support and help I do not think I would have tolerated the unprofessional way my loan application was handled and I must say that working with both Allie and Melissa have been one of the best parts of the whole first home buying process. I would definitely recommend working with them and Redfin to all my friends and family! Thanks!!!! |

Both Pamela and Allie were great answering questions. Sometimes it took a few hours, but I understand they're busy. :) One area that I think could be approved would be a little more proactive communication. I liked the schedule of events I got at the beginning of the process with dates, etc. It would be nice to have clearer communication such as "Okay, the next item to worry about is the documents getting to the lender. You should hear from me regarding this by date X." Too often I felt like I didn't have a totally clear grasp on where things stood, and I was unsure if I was supposed to be doing something.On the other hand, I felt this way w/ the agent I used for my last transaction, too. But you want to be better than that, right? ;)Thanks again, it was a great experience! |

1) you'll notice i didn't score parts of the survey, it is structured horribly (it makes presumptions that i used you as a listing agent at the beginning, should be specific to my use)2) Search / Server bandwidth: when i save a property in favorits, and then try to drill into detail of that property later it is very slow (drilling into it, and using back button)3) Education of how service works: i was attempting a purchase having never talked to anyone at Redfin. I didn't realize you all don't typically "show" properties (i should have inferred this given the discount kick back, but i hadn't). So, educate the customer somehow more proactively that are using the Search, and then attempting to enter a deal.Lastly... I love the site, love the concept of the discount and want you all to continue to be successful

1. Warn us in advance about the hostility and tactical tricks (the VOC clause, for example) displayed by some traditional realtors and advise how to deal with them. 2. Also, your survey needs an "Other" box in item 7. If "other" is the only accurate answer (as it is in my case), you have to check something else to get the survey past the consistency check. |

Using Redfin may have complicated closing the deal due to selling agent resistance. Perhaps a $500 bill for agents that work with Redfin out of the 2% rebate might be helpful. |

Notes re: my evaluation of Allie-- She was extremely responsive, professional and thorough. That said, my offer scenario highlighted a potential hole in the Redfin structure. I made an offer and received a counteroffer to expire Friday at 9 p.m. for House 1. On Thursday morning, another house (House 2) was relisted at $40K less than it had been (putting it into my price range). I visited and decided to make an offer Thursday afternoon but wanted to inspect before deciding whether to accept the counteroffer on House 1 or pursue House 2 (which I feared might get other offers in light of the substantial reduction in price). Allie did a great job of getting an offer in on House 2 and arranging an inspector to check it out on Friday. However, after the inspector checked, there were substantial wiring and settling issues, so I wanted to cancel the contract on House 2 and make a counter-counteroffer on House 1. The inspection didn't finish until the early evening, and I needed to respond to House 1 counteroffer by 9 p.m. I placed a call to Allie around 7 p.m., but there was no answer. I e-mailed, but she was out. This was generally understandable for a Friday evening, but ultimately since the counteroffer was good through 9 p.m., I needed counsel on whether to accept or counter the counteroffer. I ultimately decided to accept the counteroffer and called the listing agent directly. It was about 8:30 p.m. and she answered immediately. She was a bit confused because she said Allie had called earlier in the day saying I was not accepting the counteroffer but was pursuing another house. I'd thought Allie said we would let the counteroffer lapse, rather than giving a response. |

The Redfin listing search is excellent however it could certainly be improved if it were able to offer additional search criteria/fields, (eg., the ability to filter only 2-story homes, or only homes with 2-car garages, etc.). Also, often times I've noticed the Redfin program was unable to map a particular listing even though other sites (ie., windermere.com) were able to map it.

When the properties are on the market for longer, i feel like i have enough time to search for properties on my own, contact a redfin agent, tour properties, and place an offer. However, when it was more of a sellers market in the spring, i didn't feel like redin could respond quickly enough to houses coming on the market. I would call, but the agents would be all busy. in a very competitive, hot market, this means that you can't get to the good properties until it's too late. Maybe more field agents would help this? |

We use both Redfin and Zip realty website. The reason we use Zip is that their printable listings have a small map which is useful when doing a drive-by, or scheduling a visit. The other thing that Zip provides that Redfin does not is the price history. It is useful in determining what to offer on a property if we know what the price history is. |
