Taylor is the professional agent that we were looking for. He's courteous, prompt, patient, and knowledgeable - a great asset to the Redfin team! |
After having dealt with many traditional real estate agents in the past, I would highly recommend Taylor who seemed very knowledgeable during what can be a daunting experience for a first-time homebuyer. His advice was nearly always accurate. Redfin in general was very stress-free since you do not have the pressure of buying as you do most other real estate agents who make a living off of commission from your purchase/sale. If you are a person with common sense and enjoy the privacy and efficiency of communicating online and via phone calls, I highly recommend this service. We like to research every major decision ourselves and felt is was nice that all redfin agents gave us no pressure and were not trying to push a purchase on us with every house we saw. Taylor really understands what it takes to close a deal. The only criticism that I have is that after our home inspection, there were several items that we felt needed to be addressed--a few as major as radon remediation but mostly a lot of "smaller" items to most agents which were in our eyes very important (for example, there was only 1 bathtub and the drain didn't work. This may seem like a minor detail but if you have young children and you want to move into a functional home and live in it right away, you need a working bathtub!). We had 10 items that we wanted either repaired or compensated for with seller's credit towards our closing costs. Taylor advised us not to list these things -- however, we already had a signed contract and the worst case scenario was that the sellers might say 'no" and we would go forward with the contract 'as is". Using this common sense, we went ahead and asked for the 10 items and were pleasantly surprised to find out that the sellers addressed nearly every issue. Any traditional real estate agent outside of redfin I am sure would have put on worse pressure not to ask for closing help/repairs so I'm sure this is not specific to Taylor who's goal is to get you to closing. Otherwise, I think Taylor's advice on list price, timing, scheduling, lender issues and knowledge on the whole process is in general much better than the average agent. If you are the kind of person that likes to take on the responsibility and are pretty independent, then Redfin is great. I like doing a lot of the legwork and being informed doing my own research myself so yes, I should get half the buyer's commission! It does make sense. I also hated how other traditional real estate agents would talk us into oblivion about irrelevant things like your personal business, work, hobbies. These things are completely irrelevant, a total invasion of privacy and should not "help" an agent find a home for you. Who has time to talk about my nationality or where I grew up during a showing when my precious time should be spent looking at a home? It is also a lot more helpful when agents point out problems with the house. Anybody can see the positive sides of a house but a buyer's agent should be trained at seeing the downfalls of a home so you can appropriately assess price, etc. Redfin field agents usually said little to none at each home showings and were very unbiased which I really liked. Yes, we would definitely use Redfin again--the credit you get at the end really makes it worth it and Taylor, Anna and the rest of the agents are great!

Taylor and the rest of the Redfin team (Anna and Dianna) did an excellent job. There was always someone reachable to promptly answer any questions or worries I had, and closing went without any problems. I would recommend Redfin to anyone comfortable with using email and a fax machine. |

Redfin Crew was great to me I will like to thank them all Natshia, Brian and others on my house tours. It was a long and difficult for me to get a house but Taylor was my back bone he was there for me to answer my questions, guided me with information to read and followed through with detail information when needed. I am new to the DC area and with out Taylor I will have given up looking for a house. I had 2 realtors before I attended the Redfin real estate class were I meet Taylor. Many Thank |

Taylor always got back to us in a timely manner. There is definitely a difference between a face to face realtor experience than one mainly done by email and fax, but that's why there's the discount too. I would recommend Taylor or Redfin to anyone completely comfortable with the internet and faxes, but it isn't for everyone. Taylor was good, definitely, but with the season being so busy, some things took longer and emails were farther between, but no issues ever cropped up. |
It was a longer and more difficult for us to get a house but Taylor was always there for us. Thank you so much. BTW, Redfin is the pioneer in term how selling and buying real estate should be conducted in the 21st century!!! |

Taylor was very responsive and helpful thoughout the process. Once he understood we were purchasing this property while still overseas and giving power of attorney to our daughter, he went above and beyond his duty and provided excellent service. We were approved and closed the deal in record time! Many thanks! |
Taylor did an excellent job of getting all the paperwork processed and scheduling appointments in a timely manner. This was especially helpful since I bought a foreclosure and had a limited amount of time to complete the process. When no field agents were available to let contractors in, he showed up personally to ensure things got done. The guidance was adequate. I didn't expect as much hands on assistance as I might get from a regular agent. As a first time homebuyer however, a better explanation of the homebuying process would have helped me feel more comfortable and prevented addtitional surprises. But he was able to answer all questions as they came up. Overall Taylor did a good job and I plan to use redfin again when I decide sell. |

Taylor was as good as a full service realtor but cost half as much. He was gutsy about asking for additional repair money from the bank and his suggestion worked to get us an extra $1,000. I would recommend him for someone with experience buying who wants minimal hand-holding and a lot of money back at closing. The Redfin home search utility is the best. |

Taylor was nice enough but he didn't offer more than was absolutely necessary. No offer to review others house or find out more about us or our needs. As a matter of fact, when we found out we lost the bid. I mentioned that we probably wanted to look at another house this weekend. He said he wasn't available but that someone on Redfin would be able to show the house. No real personality. Maybe he didn't like us.
Taylor's Response
This was a bank owned home with limited details available about the property. The offer for the home had to be submitted the next day although comparables were discussed and a price for the home was negotiated. There was also about a week long delay in the bank response which obviously made things more challenging. I'll also make sure that I take the time to better explain Redfin's touring process with my clients so they understand that the quickest way to see homes on tour is using our website to schedule tours with our Field Agents.

I am very happy I chose REDFIN over a traditional real estate company for this, my third home purhcase. Taylor was more complete, responsive, and helpful than traditional realtors I have used in the past. My overall experience was very positive. |
Pros: Was willing to start an offer on his day off. Is knowledgeable about Maryland. His lack of knowledge of Virginia did NOT hurt us (we ended up buying in VA) Helped us with a small problem that cropped up day of closing (dishwasher leaked, we got a credit.) Cons: After offer was accepted we had very little contact with Taylor. At times we weren't sure what was going on. He wasn't able to make it to closing, but didn't tell us, I found out because I asked him the day before. It would have been better if he had told us. A few times it seemed he forgot details of our transaction (nothing major, just had to remind him of things I had already emailed him about.) Overall - Working with Taylor was a pleasant experience for the most part. I don't need a lot of handholding, which is good because I didn't get any. My husband still thinks it's weird that we never met Taylor, but he's happy now that we have a big fat refund check. I would recommend Taylor to friends. |
Taylor is a great person to steer a home buyer and seller. Just be ready to use some common sense and go into the process with as much knowledge as you can and soon you will be in your new home with your nice chunk of change from redfin's commission refund. Thanks for all the help Taylor. |

One fear people I have talked to is that they may not get all the attention they think they need by using Redfin. While it may not be for everyone if you understand the basics of real estate then Redfin and agents like Taylor will do the hard parts for you. We priced our home correctly and made sure that it looked great for our open house, we had two offers by Tuesday. |
I highly commend Taylor and the Redfin team for a job well orchestrated. From the scheduling of home tours, making an offer, writing the contract, corresponding with the listing agent, the final walkthrough, closing the deal, to my Redfin refund, everything went without a hitch. It takes great communication and team work to accomplish this, and I appreciated the commitment they all had a part in. Thanks to Taylor and the Redfin team for a great experience. |
Taylor was very responsive, and went above and beyond with his availability and flexability. Going with Redfin was a great choice and we would definitely recommend Taylor. |
I worked more with field agents, but Taylor responded rapidly to questions by phone and email. |
Taylor was easy to work with. He was knowledge about what we could do to make our offer more competitive on a very competitive property. He was punctual and followed up well with the seller's agent during the bidding process. Although we did not get the house, I do not think there was anything more Taylor could have done. I would strongly recommend him and the redfin model, particularly for experienced buyers.

I found the whole experience to be of excellent/superior value. The service received from Taylor and his team/co-workers(September & Anna)were phenomenon. Taylor was very helpful and great in every step of the way in dealing with the not so responsive seller and the many issues that arose. The advice given were professional and knowledgeable. Taylor was FANTASTIC!It still amazes me that Redfin offers the rebate and with such great customer service. Why on earth would anyone not use Redfin if its available in their area. Lastly, I want to thank September for her wonderful help during the home inspection. Very very thoughtful. Its the little things that make all the difference. Thanks! And we love the house. |

Taylor suited my wife and I perfectly. He responded to phone calls and emails in a timely manner and only "stepped-in" when asked. More importantly, Redfin is well-suited for home buyers who wish to search on their own. Taylor serves as an excellent point person for Redfin's business model. The $5300 rebate was applied to closing without a hitch. My wife and I look forward to our next real estate transaction with Taylor and Redfin.

We toured a house on Saturday and thought it might go quickly, so we wanted to submit an offer right away. Taylor provided input as to the initial offer amount and submitted the offer on Sunday. As first time homebuyers, we were fairly ignorant of the complexities of buying a house, but Taylor guided us through the process and answered our questions promptly. We liked the control we had throughout Redfin's homebuying process, and we enjoyed working with Taylor as well. |

Taylor's great. I just wish we had a successful purchase so you guys get paid. We've had him prepare 4 offers and submit 3 but so far we've been unsuccessful. |

Taylor was great, we were very pleased with his negotiation skills and found ourselves getting what we wanted for a very aggressive price. |

I was quite happy with Taylor's services and that of Redfin in general. My impression is that Taylor is still a bit inexperienced (he's quite young) but learning quickly. The transaction ran into some difficulties due to problems with the other parties in the deal. If Taylor had been more experienced, he might have been able to mitigate them better. Nonetheless, he was quite helpful and made himself continuously available, even on weekends and after hours, which I greatly appreciated. The rebate at the end made it all worth it, along with the transparency and choice that the Redfin approach provides. I would definitely recommend Taylor, and Redfin in general, to friends and family.

Taylor provided excellent service and we have and will continue to recommend Redfin to our friends. I have used other agents with Coldwell Banker and Prudential on other residential transactions, but Taylor definitely was the best by a longshot. He provided an excellent level of service: timely reponse, was patient and provided thoughtful advice during the negotiation process, thoroughly understood the contract, and ultimately got us the house we wanted at a fair price. Anna Schwoerer, who helped close the deal, was also very responsive and extremely helpful at coordinating closing and creating an action list. The only potential room for improvement would be that we would have liked more "insider" knowledge of the market, beyond what was listed in the comps. We "switched" markets by first looking at North Bethesda, then northern Virginia, so this would be outside of Taylor's focus, but it would have been helpful to coordinate with and tap into the NoVa agents' (like Marshall) first-hand market experience to get a sense of the NoVa market. |

Taylor did an outstanding job in helping us purchase our new home. He was extremely professional and provided excellent advance throughout the process. He responded to questions very quickly no matter the day or time. We would not hesitate to use Taylor again. |
Overall Taylor and the whole team were great to work with. I think we challenged them a bit by using a mortgage company that was out of state and not as familiar with Maryland home buying protocol. We probably could've used some additional hand holding through the process but it all turned out well in the end. Taylor's (and the teams) responsiveness was incredible. If they weren't able to answer the phone at first they got back to us within a couple of hours, even at night and on the weekends. This really helped us feel comfortable in going through the process. |
We are first-time buyers and had a great experience with Taylor. Like many buyers nowadays, we did a lot of research on the Internet (Redfin's website & forums are a good start for that). Our first offer on the house was not successful (no fault of Taylor's), but the house came back on the market and we this time our offer was successful. Taylor responds quickly to inquiries or discussion needs. He was either ready to talk when we called him and if he was not available, he quickly returned my call. We do tend to be of the type who call when we have a question and we don't wait for issues to be brought to us. We bought during the busy season of the year and it was not unusual to talk to him late in the evening. I don't know what the service level of a traditional broker is, but we were very happy with Taylor. In our case, a negotiation issue came up. He laid out the options, made a suggestion, but also went with our choice. I really appreciated that. A few notes that on Redfin itself: I think Redfin's greatest advantage is its transparency. All customer reviews, good or bad, are posted for everyone to see. I would recommend potential buyers to read all of them. I believe one can get a pretty good idea if Redfin or a specific agent will for for him/her when reading the reviews. I also learned quite a bit from Redfin's online forums and again all topics are welcome, even a topic that compares Redfin to other discount brokers. In my mind this transparency and openness establishes a level of trust that other brokers have yet to match. I'm happy to see Redfin grow and it seems that the lead agents are currently very busy. This is probably an area where Redfin can improve on by staffing more lead agents. |
Several time during our closing Taylor was not able to get timely responses from the seller or their agent. More than once we had to directly communicate with the seller and their agent to ensure a smooth closing. On the topic of timely communication, one of our earlier offers was not received by the seller's agent before its expiration. In general we found Taylor was not good at timely communicating with sellers and their agents. More than once we felt as though Taylor was not looking out for our best interest. Our advice for you if you work with Taylor is to stay highly engaged and track the details of your closing for yourself. |
We are very happy with the services we received. Taylor and his team was available to answer and guide us through every step. |
Taylor is always honest and friendly. He makes sure things happen in your ways. |
I'm sure Taylor is good at what he does, and I'd guess that Redfin makes for good buyers' agents. They just don't really seem set up to be seller's agents - especially in this market, you need someone more actively engaged in your property (they are a bit TOO numbers oriented - while their research is extensive, it isn't everything). The agents seem a bit overloaded and the DC market isn't familiar with Redfin so it confuses potential buyers. |

Taylor was extremely accessible and helpful throughout the entire home buying process. As a first time home buyer I had lots of questions as I submitted an offer, the property went under contract and up to the closing. Taylor never hesitated to take the time to explain the minutiae of a document I was submitting or the effect it had on the overall transaction. I felt like I had a skilled, knowledgeable advocate on my side throughout the entire process. It was a genuine pleasure working with the Redfin team and Taylor Connolly in particular. |
Taylor was really on top of everything. I really appreciated his calm, knowledgeable style as he talked us through the offer process, reassured us that the amount and contingencies we chose were reasonable, and negotiated with the sellers. Everything went smoothly. After we got the house, he did a great job directing us through the home inspection and closing process. I've recommended him to two friends who are house-hunting. He's hard-working and really knows what he's doing. I also really like Redfin itself. Searching for homes we liked and keeping track of our favorites was easy. My only suggestion would be to hire a few more field agents so that buyers don't have to wait several days between submitting a home tour request and actually getting to go on the tour. Dianna was great though. |
We were very pleased with Taylor. He was usually very responsive to our concerns and needs. Our settlement was about 30 days after the offer was submitted. This made everything urgent, and Taylor always came through. Great job. |
For having only met him in person once---he was quite possibly the best realtor we have yet to work with. I will go back to Taylor for future real estate endeavors and I have already recommended him to friends and family. |
Working with Taylor was great. We had a lot of problems while trying to buy our house (none of them caused by Redfin) and Taylor really went above and beyond the call of duty. This was our first home and Taylor took the time to answer all of questions thoroughly (there were a lot of questions). I would recommend Taylor, and Redfin to anybody. |

Taylor was very competent and professional, and we would definitely use redfin again. Taylor helped us satisfactorily resolve a unique situation involving damage to the property (a large oak tree in the backyard fell) that occurred only a few days before closing. My only concerns are: (1) as a first-time homebuyer, I think he or someone else at redfin could've given us a bit more of an overview about the homebuying process in general, (2) Taylor seemed at times to be really busy with other sales and was sometimes inaccessible (though he returned calls within 24 hours), and (3) Taylor's advice tended to be somewhat pessimistic regarding terms that the seller would accept. Those are pretty minor criticisms, which I think were heavily outweighed by the redfin rebate.

We had a very efficient and professional experience with Taylor and Redfin. Our home buyer process went smoothly and Taylor was always available and very helpful all the way through to settlement. We have nothing but positive reviews. We are very happy with the outcome and are already recommending Redfin to our friends and family. Many thanks to Taylor for all his work! Joyce & Randy Couey |

Taylor was always available through email or cell phone. He responded very quickly when we left any message. It was a very good experience working with him. I would recommend him to other buyers. |

Taylor worked with us to submit a bid in a very competitive situation (house on the market 6 days, 15 bids, went to someone else for above-listing price). In general, I didn't feel that Taylor was enthusiastic about working with us. As first-time homebuyers we were pretty nervous, and I wanted him to be either take-charge in his attitude and matching our level of energy, or calm and reassuring and telling us that there was no need to panic. Instead, when we spoke it almost seemed like he was waiting for me to tell him what I wanted to do next. I was worried that because he wasn't taking the lead, he wasn't totally on top of the situation. I wanted more guidance - I especially wanted him to suggest to us what we should offer. Instead he was vague in his replies and did not suggest a figure. But maybe it's Redfin policy not to offer specific advice in a situation like that. Taylor did work late and respond to my emails and calls, and he put in our bid despite the stressful time crunch. We were disappointed that we didn't have an opportunity to negotiate with the seller through an offer/counteroffer situation, as we had expected to do - thus, we had no chance to revise our bid after submitting it. I think that given the unusual situation with that house, Taylor probably did the best he could. One thing that is probably more Redfin than Taylor is that it was difficult to schedule home tours. I put in a request to see this particular house the morning it was listed, but no one could take us out there until two days later. Then, I was frustrated that given the short window of time we had to make up our minds about the house, Redfin wasn't more responsive about scheduling a repeat visit (we ended up seeing the house a second time with an agent from another company who was able to fit us in right away). We'll use Redfin again and hope to have a better experience the second time around. [Review edited by client on 06-15-2009] |

Our experience with Taylor in submitting an offer was very positive, even though the offer wasn't accepted by the seller. I've worked with other agents before (not Redfin), and he was definitely the best: good comparables, honest opinions, responsive, worked late, patiently walked through the process. If I was a first-time homebuyer, though, I might want more advice regarding our offer.

We are first-time buyers and we saw a listing that we wanted to pursue on Thursday before Memorial Day Weekend. We had an agent that we loosely worked with (no buyers agreement), but he was out of town. So we contacted Redfin and Taylor got back to us. Taylor was great - we worked via phone and e-mail and he was always knowledgeable, accessible and got back to us quickly. We discussed the details on Friday night and faxed our offer in on Saturday during Memorial Day Weekend; I'm not sure how many full-service brokers do that. Unfortunately, it didn't work out (the house went quickly and at full price), but that was not Taylor's fault. This experience was quite deliberating for me. With our old agent, I always questioned what the value-added of a full-service broker and whether it is worth the full commission. Like Taylor, he was also friendly, knowledgeable and available, but he never gave us any information that we didn't already have. With Taylor, there was never an expectation that we need to go through houses, he guided us through the contract and the negotiation process. Working with Taylor showed me that for potential buyers that are informed about the market, Redfin's model really works. I think it's ideal for buyers who expect to do most of the house-finding part themselves (and no one can really tell you what you like anyway). In my opinion, if you know your local market (i.e., looked at a lot of houses and have your own comps in mind) and you are comfortable taking charge regarding the price you are willing to pay (a good indicator is perhaps if you are comfortable making investment decisions), then Redfin is for you. Taylor was a great fit for what we are looking for and we will ask for his help in the future. |

Taylor is the best agent I've worked with. He is very experienced and knows very well about the market. He coached me in detail to setup the initial offer, negotiate the contact and close the deal. Although redfin offers a discount, I found the Redfin service is not discounted at all. It has everything a traditional agent has to offer, only but better. Taylor also possesses a wonderful personality. He is polite, honest and professional. He always responded with my emails and calls in a timely fashion, and provided with thorough answers, rounded advices and constructive suggestions. I will not hesitate at all to recommend Redfin and Taylor. Last but not the least, the Redfin team worked together very well, from the field agents, to the closing co-coordinator, from the web-master to the management team. Each person handled his/her work efficiently and effectively. I believe the Redfin model is the future of the real estate business. |

As a first time home buyer I was a bit hesitant using a service like Redfin, but it worked out great! Taylor was always quick to respond and followed through in a timely manner. If you know what you want and understand the home buying process from past experience or research then Taylor can deliver. I'm not sure how well the service would work for someone who has a whole lot of questions as I didn't end up asking many. |

Taylor has good points and bad points. He is fairly timely about calling after you have filled at the online offer form but after that he is fairly unresponsive. Apparently he is unavailable on the weekend and often during the weeks he seemed otherwise engaged. Once he told me he could not get in touch with an agent for several days and I dialed that agents number and they answered right away. Once the house went under contract before he even contacted them because it took him so long to get around to contacting them. He is sometimes argumentative even if you offer is within the guidlines of what redfin will allow you to offer.
Taylor's Response
It was unfortunate that I was not able to help this client purchase a home. Over the course of a year, the client made 15+ offers on different homes, each offer in the range of 15% below the asking price. The houses and locations that they were interested in were extremely competitive and I tried my best to advise them on current market dynamics in terms of what it would take to have a competitive offer. They chose to continue to make offers below asking price and if that is the price they needed to be within, I do understand. However, I did try my best to respond to their needs in a timely manner. In the end, I understand their being disappointed in their pursuit to purchase a home.

My experience with Taylor (and with Redfin) was very positive overall. His strengths were accessibility and follow-through. The contract writing experience was better than that with the traditional RE brokerage I used in 2004 (L&F) in many respects, mainly I was not pushed to bid higher than I was comfortable with and CMA was done better.

He was just fine. Thanks. Coming from overseas, my only complaint was not with Taylor but the process here in the US where we needed to submit a detailed contract without having any idea whether our offer would even be considered. There were 6 offers on the house we bid on so we wasted Taylor's time unfortunately and I feel bad about that. I'd much prefer we just paid a flat fee for services.

We were very happy with our experience with Taylor and Redfin. Redfin was a good fit for us since we preferred to do the house hunting on our own. Once we had a place in mind, we contacted Taylor and got full service. He was easy to get in touch with at any hour. He answered all our questions and provided helpful input and advice. The Redfin refund made a huge dent in our closing costs. We definitly recommend Redfin and Taylor. |

I was originally assigned to Fernando and my experience with him was extremely bad. Fernando was unresponsive to important beginning negotiations with the seller and his information on comparables in the area was minuscule. Fearing that I would lose the house to another buyer, I called cooperate about my situation and I was immediately switched to Taylor. It was night and day comparing the two agents. Taylor redid the comparables with clear and understandable details, I was able to negotiate with his advice with a fair price. His work was done in a timely manner throughout the entire process and he always followed up with whether or not he received any information from the seller or anything else I requested |

Taylor responded very quickly to my request to write an offer. I had been working informally with another agency, but my agent was out of town for a few weeks on vacation, and he hadn't given me any alternate to work with. I saw an open house that I knew would go quickly (they already had three offers), so I asked Redfin to help me write the offer late Sunday evening. Taylor called bright and early to get the process started. He provided good comps and advice in structuring the offer. We submitted our offer in time for the presentation. Unfortunately, the seller didn't pick my offer. Taylor followed up with me, to relate the reasons why the seller had chosen a different offer. There was nothing I would have done differently. Just have to keep looking. One minor negative, not about Taylor, but more about the Redfin reputation. When I informed the listing agent that I was using Redfin, he asked if the Redfin agent would be presenting my offer in person or "just emailing it," clearly indicating a distaste for Redfin in general. I think he's just afraid that if too many people use Redfin, they won't be willing to pay the previously accepted bloated commissions. |

Taylor did a good job. He was easy to talk to and very easy to get in touch with. If he wasn't available, he would return calls very quickly and he was great on email. I think I would have liked him to negotiate a little harder for me, but he still got us a price around where we were looking. The only complaint I have is that he was not at our home inspection, which made it difficult when explaining to the seller what needed to be done, thus making negotiating harder. He was out of town during our closing, but that didn't make a difference. Redfin is good if you know where you want to live and know the price range for which you want to pay. I would recommend using Taylor. |
We put in a total of 3 contracts with Taylor: a regular sale, a short sale and a relocation company sale. With all we found him very easy to work with and very accommodating. His extensive experience was a big plus as he had dealt with short sales and worked with relocation companies before. This meant he could give realistic expectations of how each would proceed. Our sale went smoothly and we highly recommend Taylor. |
Taylor was helpful, but assigning an agent that lives and works in Baltimore to a client in DC makes no sense at all. It seemed like a major inconvenience for him to come to the house for any of the required inspections and then he wasn't able to make it to closing, despite there being outstanding issues with our walkthrough. |

Redfin presents an incredible alternative to the mainstream real estate brokerage market at an irresistible bargain. I had an excellent experience working with Taylor Connolly and Redfin. I used the Redfin website for my home search from start to finish over almost a six months period. I almost got addicted to the website. It's really awesome with all the state-of-the-art features! Taylor was very good and accessible. We did most of our paper work over email which was much more convenient than fax.The one thing that I would like to see improve is the number of agents available in the area. There were times when we saw a good deal on the market and would have liked to see the property quickly and make an offer promptly but Taylor was otherwise engaged and couldn't make time for us.Thanks to Redfin and Taylor Connolly for making our dream home a reality!

The financial incentives are great, but at times we would have probably liked a little more care. It felt a bit too transactional. The new model probably would have suited us better. |
Redfin rebate was excellent and the agent (Taylor) was friendly but this is all for the good points. The main problem was that Taylor appears as very inexperienced and when complicated issues emerged he was never able to come with much help - for instance like in the case when there was a problem with the roof detected by the inspection. The only thing that Taylor could do was to give me the number of a contractor. Finally, on the final walk-through we found out that two walls were in very bad state as the owner took out the wall mounted TVs. I wanted to complain with the owner and put it on the inspection sheet as something they had to sort out - Taylor suggested not to in order to have a clean inspection sheet and promised the owners would have taken care of it - the only thing that he managed to was to get the agent to drop by a can of paint! |

I felt that it was a challenging transaction for all involved, however, at times our agent did slip up and not provide the service expected. That being said, I believe that he was doing his best. As a first time buyer, I would only recommend your services to more experienced purchasers who are able to ascertain their needs prior to entering into the purchase transaction and to those purchasers that have really "done their research" regarding the specific local market in which they seek to purchase a home. Given the relative small size of your brokerage in the DC area, it is nearly impossible to have a firm grasp of all of the individual local markets within the greater DC region. |

Taylor was great. I'd use REDFIN again in a heatbeat and I've already recommended it to others. |

Don't know whether it's me or the agent, but, in my book, this was a big bust. Frankly, I think I'm the kind of client you ought to be looking for. I'm willing to do most of the research and much of the leg work myself. Plus, I came with financing approved and a sizeable down payment in hand. I never even asked Redfin to set up a house tour. I did all of that on my own (always letting listing agents know I was working with Redfin). The only thing I asked for was that Redfin would get the paperwork done, give me some advice during negotiations, and hold my hand through closing. I didn't get any of that. By the way, I blew $500 on a home inspection, spent almost as much on a second appraisal, and the agent didn't even tell the title company that the deal fell through, so I paid $90 for a title search on a property I didn't get a chance to buy (and I never even communicated with the title company to say we had a contract--this was the title company that the agent typed into the contract). Ninety bucks might not seem like much in a $500K transaction, but it sure sticks in my craw--typifying the agent's sloppiness in his work. Then, after failing to communicate with me for over a week (including not returning phone calls), the agent had the nerve to call me 10 minutes after I requested release from my agency contract with Redfin to say, "Hey, sorry I haven't been in touch. Do you want to talk about what's next?" Really! Again, I'm the type of person who ought to be singing Redfin's praises, but, instead, I'll be telling friends and co-workers about my negative experience. I wish I could be more positive, but I can't be.

You need to figure out a way for buyers to get more home tours. It is distressing to feel like you can't "waste" a tour by seeing only one house, and when you cram several into one tour you feel rushed. Redfin is great once you have a house picked, but could use improvement in the home-tours area. |

Taylor did a fine job representing us, however, I don't understand why no transaction coordinator was assigned, as stated on the website. I called to inquire about this, and the person at headquaters indicated that it is because Baltimore/DC is a smaller Redfin market. Taylor perhaps was stretched a little thin to be able to attend to every detail. Everything worked out okay in the end however.

The communication from the ESCROW company was poor. They did everything in the last moment, did not prepare the HUD-1 until very late even though they had all the paperwork and were pushed so many times to complete the documents early.Taylor Connolly is a good agent, except that sometime he did not respond to queries in a timely manner sometime. The Redfin service definitely was not like a full fledged service but did work OK as a discount service. I was not assigned a Transaction Coordinator, so I assume Taylor was responsible for that role as well. I had to call around to co-ordinate everything to be able to close on time. |

We loved our Redfin experience and our supportive and responsive agent (Taylor). Both of these would improve the customer experience and show more flexibility with your business model. We've already recommended Redfin to others. |

We love the concept of redfin. We loved the idea of finding our home on our own. We felt we were going to get more support on closing given we were first time home buyers. Once we got to that point, we felt things were not explained clearly - NO recommendations were made, only statistics, no explaination as to why we might do one thing or another. We felt really let down with the offer process. We felt to the point that we lost our second opportunity primarily due to lack of guidance from Redfin. |

On our first meeting, the agent showed up 20 minutes late... made a bad first impression, as we were on tight schedules. Focus on the first impression would be my advice... goes a long way. Would have been nice also to know that I had a field agent to arrange for me to enter the property.

I recommend Redfin to anyone whom I have spoken to since the purchase. We feel like it was really an excellent choice for us as buyers. Taylor managed most of our process - including a few of the field visits. He was very patient, not pushy, responsive by email and phone, had a great attitude. When I first met him I was concerned just by his apparent age that he would not have the experience to guide us through the offer and contract process. But he was very good in this regard. The website is a great research and market monitoring tool. It really helped us understand the sub-markets we were looking both spatially, in terms of stock and pricing. Once we got into the offer and contract process I really didn't feel like we were dealing with anything but a full service realtor. That - plus the cash back - made the transaction a extremely positive one. One recommendation if allowed would be to more prominently pitch the website and the robust information platform therein as a key value-added part of the Redfin service. We came to Redfin frankly b/c of the cash back offer and b/c we didn't the implicit or explicit obligation that came with working with a traditional agent. But it was the access to information that really made this buying process different from our apartment purchase in 2005. Using this information platform for 2-3 months gave us a lot of confidence in our understanding of value in the market. If I had to say anything negative, I have the follow observations. More detail orientation in the 'counter-offer' process would have been useful. After the home inspection we made a counter which asked for certain improvements. I felt that Taylor could have spent some more time specifying these improvements to avoid some uncertainty at the time of closure. And also a bit more of detail-orientation when drawing up the contract would also have avoided some minor errors. I think the issue was more that the office appeared to be a bit stretched in terms of workload at the time of our purchase. |

I would be happy to be a reference. Taylor Connolly was excellent. Redfin was wonderful. Thank you for the excellent service. P.S.--I am ordinarily a very critical customer. |

Taylor Connolly is a fantastic agent. I look forward to working with him again.

First of all my Redfin agent instead of negotiating with the seller always negotiates with us for pricing. Feels like he is representing the sellers. Doesn't look very enthustic or working hard towards gettng the deal work. Should pay more detailed attention to paper works before sending to buyers for signing. Also be more informative. |
I wanted to do a home tour, but the agent was unable to provide one over a 2-3 day period and did not propose an alternative such as reaching out to the listing agent or seller. |

Agent should have adviced more on the offer and work harder to win the deal or ways to get the offer accepted. Also asked for CMA for some other houses we are interested on and never heard back from the agent.

Allow users to query and create a map of certain houses. This comes in handy when going to open houses on the weekend. My husband and I spent a good 6 months going to open houses. I would put the houses into google map and create a route. It was very helpful and allowed us to visit up to 7 houses in 4 hrs. |

Our experience with Redfin Direct, and Taylor Connolly in particular, generally rated fair to poor. We went with Redfin because we were shopping remotely (living in Phoenix, buying in Baltimore) and already knew the area thoroughly from having lived in Baltimore for 7yrs prior to our 1.5yr relocation to Arizona. The website house-hunting interface was among the best we saw. Unfortunately the interaction with Taylor left much to be desired. He was consistently late to showings/appointments, difficult to reach via phone, heavily distracted with cellphone/laptop when we met with him, and in general much less helpful in the showing/buying stage of the process than "standard" realtors we've worked with previously. Also, I don't recall having even once heard from a "Transaction Coordinator", which would have been highly useful in our situation. We switched from working with a standard agent to working with Redfin Direct largely because of the rebate. Which also soured on us, because the minimum commission was changed from $3000 to $4000 *while* we were shopping on Redfin, and thus we were out $1000. To add insult to injury, we found out only late in the buying process that the seller was offering just 2.5% commission.Based on our experience, I would only recommend Redfin Direct to someone in our particular circumstance -- shopping remotely into a market with which the buyer is already very familiar. Otherwise I would recommend buyers seek out a local "standard" realtor for the sort of service that was lacking with Taylor Connolly, and IMHO is much more valuable than a ~2% commission rebate. |

Our agent was seemingly afraid to criticize any of the properties we wanted him to show us, even though we specifically asked him to help us find reasons NOT to buy these properties. Also, I wouldn't say I consider myself a ruthless negotiator, but I seemed to be the one pushing for a better price, while I got the feeling he would have been happy for us to settle over $10k above where we ended up. I hope he becomes a bit more forcefull and forthcoming as he gains experience. He was extermely courteous, pleasant and professional. |

Redfin is an absolutely ideal service for us and those like is: that is to say, one who is internet-savvy, a self-starter, and independent minded. For such a person, I would rate this an absolute 10. We can see, however, how the service would not be ideal for everyone; specifically, for those less familiar with an area and less computer literate. We appreciated specifically and independently the work that our agent Taylor did, and would (and have, actually!) recommended him to another friend we know who will soon be purchasing a house. He did a stellar job working through our mortgage with a VERY tight deadline, and we recommend him without hesitation or pause.

Taylor was a pleasure to work with. Redfin should consider allocating more resources to the Baltimore market (as distinct from the DC metro area).

I thought your site was incredible. The only thing I would change about it was to add Baltimore under the cities where you are because in Maryland, Washington DC and Baltimore are two separate cities and not everyone would know you are operating out of Baltimore as well. I had a great experience with Redfin and would definitely recommend them to friends. Thanks! |

Market to the military more through channels like military.com , military service organizations, and home related businesses that cater to a military audience (USAA insurance, e.g.). Given their frequent moving and limited time to actually physically view houses, Redfin's online business model is a great fit. |

We liked Taylor a lot, and our mortgage broker told us she thought he was a good agent (and we really trust her). However, we weren't always sure that Taylor was pushing as hard for us as the sellers' agent (a tough cookie) was pushing for her client. However, that may be due to the fact that we indicated upfront that we wanted the property by any means necessary. I think a little reassurance/indication that he was trying to bargain for us would've been helpful -- and would be helpful to other Redfin clients. In general, though, we are *very* happy with the service we received from Redfin and Taylor (we even said so in our personal blog :)

Website is really great and gives the user power to do their own research. Generally, you should not charge people to see houses when the agent knows less than you about the neighborhood. |

Redfin Direct (Taylor Connolly) worked well for me, but I'm not sure it would be suitable for a first-time buyer. |

At this point, I think Redfin works very good for motivated buyers, if someone was more uncertain, I think the process would be scary and a bit impersonal. If there was a way to make the process a bit more personal, I think it could be even more successful. |

Your website seems slow from all the locations from where I'd accessed it...I used other sites for the searching vs using RedFin's search engine. |

The real estate industry is in dire need of a paradigm shift. This company is necessary for change. The only thing I would change is changing the number of house visits a potential customer can do for free. It forces the customer to be more proactive in their research, which is great. But I would of liked to visit other parts of the city to gauge a better idea of the area. That way the customer can feel more comfortable about their purchase. I understand that some people may take advantage of this, but I feel that the agent should be able to use some discretion if its appropriate to show additional houses for free. Also, I'd like to say that Taylor Connolly was great. He certainly made the process easy for me and I would absolutely recommend Redfin to other people. He worked long hours and always maintained good communication. |

I've already begun recommending friends who are looking to buy properties consider Redfin. It would be great if you had an incentive program for referrals. Maybe a $50 gift certificate to Amazon for every referral that eventually leads to a sale? Just an idea... |
