Dustin Johnson Could Afford Any Home on the Market in his Hometown of Columbia, S.C. with His 2015 Earnings

With the U.S. Open just around the corner at Chambers Bay (which is just a hop, skip and a jump away from Redfin’s headquarters), we started thinking about the types of homes the best golfers in the world could afford.

After some research, we found that with their 2015 PGA Tour earnings, they could afford almost every home that is currently on the market in their hometowns; there were only a few that were out of reach with just one year’s earnings.

So, without further ado, here are the number of homes that the top 15 golfers in the U.S. couldn’t afford in their hometown with their 2015 PGA Tour earnings.

Jordan Spieth (Dallas, TX): 49
Spieth tops the FedEx cup rank after winning the 2015 Masters. His $6 million earnings on the tour puts him in the luxury range of the Dallas market, and there are only 49 homes on the market that he couldn’t afford with his year-to-date earnings.

Jimmy Walker (Oklahoma City, OK): 1
Walker has two PGA Tour wins in 2015, is ranked second in the FedEx Cup and has earned over $4 million this year. There is only one home he couldn’t afford in Oklahoma City with this year’s salary: this gorgeous 11,250 square foot secluded estate, complete with a crystal clear pond, 20 forested acres, and a pool with cave that has a bar inside of it!

Charley Hoffman (San Diego, CA): 194
Hoffman was born in San Diego, is ranked 4 in the FedEx Cup and has earned over $3 million on the PGA tour. However, he also lives in one of the most luxurious housing markets in the U.S., meaning there are 194 homes on the market that are out of his price range. Poor guy!

Patrick Reed (San Antonio, TX): 7
Reed, winner of this year’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions, has earned more than $2.6 million this year. In his hometown of San Antonio, there are only seven homes he couldn’t afford with those winnings, including this $12 million estate that includes two homes, a state of the art gymnasium and workout facility used by several NBA players.

J.B. Holmes (Louisville, KY): 0 in Campbellsville, 1 in Louisville
Louisville Home Holmes was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky and could afford every home on the market there. We decided to take a look at nearby Louisville to give us a better gauge of his buying power. The sixth-ranked player in the FedEx rankings could afford all but one of the 3,780 homes on the market with his $3.1 million earnings. It’s a gigantic 23,400 square foot estate located on 10 wooded acres, complete with an indoor (and outdoor) pool, an indoor tennis court and an eight car garage.

Dustin Johnson (Columbia, SC): 0
Johnson has one of the longest drivers on the PGA Tour and ranks third in putting average. He won the 2015 WGC Cadillac Championship, helping him reach the seventh rank in the FedEx Cup. His $3.4 million earnings means he could afford every home on the market in Columbia, South Carolina!

Brandt Snedeker (Nashville, TN): 49
The 2012 FedEx Cup winner ranks 8 this year and has earned $2.8 million in 2015. There are 49 homes in Nashville he can’t purchase with his 2015 winnings. However, If he pooled his $28 million in career earnings, he could afford this $17.9 million European-themed estate that is 20,533 square feet.

19Warf Bubba Watson (Bagdad, FL): 0 in Bagdad, 1 in Pensacola
Watson, one of the few left-handed golfers on the tour, is a multiple-major champion and comes in at number 10 on the latest FedEx Cup rankings. He is from Bagdad, FL and could afford every home on the market. Since there weren’t a whole lot of listings in Bagdad, we checked out the Pensacola market as well. His $2.8 million could buy all but one home, a 7,500 square foot stunner overlooking Pensacola Bay.

Robert Streb (Chickasha, OK): 0
Streb is ranked 12th in the FedEx Cup ranking and won the McGladrey Classic. He has earned $2.3 million from the PGA Tour in 2015, and can afford every home on the market in this suburb of Oklahoma City. If he decided he wanted to live closer to the city, there are 9 homes he couldn’t afford in OKC.

RomeGeorgia
Ben Martin (Rome, GA): 1
Martin won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open and has four top-ten finishes on the PGA Tour, resulting in a FedEx Cup rank of 13. His $2.3 million in winnings does well for him in Rome, GA – the only home he can’t afford is an historical Greek Revival- style estate, situated on 39 acres, with a barn, cottage and even a fallout shelter!

Chris Kirk (Knoxville, TN): 13
Kirk won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial and has racked up more than $2.2 million this year. In Knoxville, that allows him to buy all but 13 of 3,700 homes on the market. He may want to pony up and borrow from his $12 million career earnings to buy this $5.695 million stone mansion on the Tennessee River, complete with a covered patio that includes an outdoor kitchen, fireplace, dining and lounge areas.

Kevin Kisner (Aiken, SC): 2
Kisner has had a tough 2015, finishing runner-up twice after two sudden-death playoffs. These finishes helped him earn rank 14 in the FedEx cup, with more than $2.3 million. In his hometown of Aiken, South Carolina he can afford all but two of the 1,788 properties on the market.

Brooks Koepka (West Palm Beach, FL): 45
Koepka is a rising star on the PGA Tour, and won his first PGA Tour event at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. This helped him earn the #18 rank in the FedEx Cup and he has earned $2.2 million on the 2015 PGA Tour. In West Palm Beach, that allows him to buy all but 45 of the 2,264 homes on the market.

Rickie Fowler (Murrieta, CA): 5
Fowler, known for his bold color choices on Sundays along with his immense skill at golf, is ranked 19 in the FedEx Cup. He has made $2.75 million on the 2015 PGA Tour. There are only five homes he can’t afford in Murrieta, including this 26-acre estate perched above the Santa Rosa Plateau.

Bill Haas (Charlotte, NC): 34
Haas comes in at number 20 on the latest FedEx Cup results, and has a cool $2.273 million in earnings from the 2015 PGA Tour. This allows him to buy all but 34 of the 3,450 homes for sale in Charlotte. We’re guessing he’d like this $2.195 million estate, which is located right next to the Palisades Golf & Country Club, where he could practice his swing.
