Maybe it’s just me, but by the time Thanksgiving rolls around, the pumpkins I’ve purchased have all started to “melt” and the gold-and-orange hues of the season seem to be EVERYWHERE.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good harvest-inspired tablescape this time of year, but who says it has to be all gourds, pumpkins and husks of corn in order to feel festive? This year, I’ve thrown tradition aside in favor of a Thanksgiving table with a decidedly Pacific Northwest feel; flannel buttondown, skinny jeans and pumpkin spice latte not included!
Red Delicious apples add an inexpensive (and tasty!) pop of fall-inspired color to an otherwise calm color palette, while golden candlesticks thrifted from the local Goodwill store give the table a hint of vintage flair. A handmade magnolia leaf garland adds fullness to the table without being overwhelming or causing dinner guests to crane their necks around an over-the-top floral arrangement in order to carry on a conversation.
A Buffalo Plaid tablecloth in classic colors hints at being rustic without being as loud or in-your-face as a traditional plaid pattern. Gold chargers paired with aspen rounds and crimson napkins for place settings create a beautiful mix of classic and rustic, while unifying both the traditional and more unique aspects of the table.
It’s casual while still remaining sophisticated, and it celebrates the season without needing “HAPPY THANKSGIVING!” confetti sprinkled all over the table (though don’t get me wrong, I love confetti on the right occasion!). And, with the majority of items being sourced from stores with plenty of locations across the U.S., the affordability and ease of this design is something for which we can all be very thankful this year!
