Dr. Ben Carson, president-elect Trump’s recently selected Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, is getting a jump start on his new role. The accomplished neurosurgeon just listed his West Palm Beach mansion for $1.2 million, as he presumably prepares to move to Washington, D.C. Carson purchased the lavish estate in 2013 for $775,000. The HUD secretary is hoping to score $425,000 on the sale.
The extravagant Florida abode is over 6,000 square feet and features four and half bathrooms and five bedrooms. Carson’s home also comes with marble floors, chef’s kitchen and the property is located on an exclusive golf course.
The property resides in West Palm Beach, FL, where the average listing price is around $239,000. However, luxury properties have fared well in the neighborhood recently, according to Redfin’s luxury market analysis. Luxury homes in West Palm Beach saw prices rise 22 percent in the third quarter compared to the same period last year. The average price for a luxury home (a home in the top 5 percent most expensive sales) was $1.32 million. Though Carson’s property has a steep price tag, the Redfin Estimate values the property at $1,143,851, so it appears Carson may get close to his asking price.
