Luxury homes in Omaha aren’t exactly a rarity, but you wouldn’t know it from Warren Buffet, one of the town’s most renowned residents. Buffet, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and the second richest man in the United States, famously chooses very modest digs: he still lives in the same unassuming home he purchased in 1958 for $31,500.
But he could live someplace way nicer; Omaha luxury homes have a lot to offer, contrary to what those on the coasts may believe. And, true to stereotype, real estate in Nebraska can be had for a fraction of the cost of coastal luxury listings. Let’s look at three.
1. Nine-bath Barmettler Mansion
Address: 622 North 38th Street, Omaha
Price: $1,099,000
On the market for a little over $1M, the six-bedroom, nine-bathroom Barmettler mansion is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It’s recently been updated and restored (check out the woodwork in the entryway and parlor) and sits in Midtown, just minutes from downtown. The property includes a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom detached guest house, has stately curb appeal and an ample yard. What’s not to like?

2. 42-acre Nature Lover’s Oasis
Looking for more inspiration?
Address: 2391 Davis Mountain, Fort Calhoun
Price: $2,750,000
While not actually in Omaha, this 42-acre property offers nature (and architecture) lovers an opportunity to really enjoy the outdoors. The main home’s Frank-Lloyd-Wright-meets-the-A-frame design lets in plenty of light and has the woodsy feel you come to expect from a wildlife retreat. The home is also stunning in its own right. Add in a guest house with a three-car garage, a private fishing pond, an in-home movie theater and brilliant views and you can spend long weekend after long weekend out here. Considering the acreage, the $2.75M ask seems imminently reasonable.

3. Home of a Football Coach
Address: 1302 North 138th Street, Omaha
Price: $1,500,000
What would one of these lists be without a little celebrity? This is the home of Joe Moglia, former CEO of TD Ameritrade and current football coach at Coastal Carolina. A local hero, Moglia seems to turn everything he touches into gold, including this home. Check out the swimming pool, billiards table, indoor basketball court, 1000-gallon fish tank and chef’s kitchen. Located in the exclusive Linden Estates development, this home can be had for $1.5M.
