This week’s data visualization was completed in conjunction with a new analysis by Redfin that found pricier metros also tend to have a more lengthy commute time. Average commute times vary greatly across America, ranging from 41 minutes in Charles County, MD to less than 10 minutes for a handful of other (more rural) counties.
New Jersey as a whole had the longest state average at about 30 minutes, whereas Alaska’s residents commute only 11 minutes on average. New York City’s counties also stood out for having average commute times around 40 minutes.
Redfin gathered average travel time and population data at the county level from the American Community Survey (ACS) in 2014 from the Census. View the other tabs to see how commute times varied by metro region along with the latest median home sale price data by Redfin.
