How we determine the windiest cities<\/span><\/h2>\n

For our purposes of determining the \u201cwindiest\u201d cities, <\/span>this list will focus on cities that have the highest average annual wind speed<\/b>. Many cities frequently see strong bursts of wind, like those from tornadoes and hurricanes, but are relatively calm otherwise. These won\u2019t make the cut. This list focuses on consistency over an entire year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because of this, several cities in the Great Plains from central Texas to South Dakota (known as <\/span>Tornado Alley<\/span><\/a>) and the Southeast from Louisiana to Kentucky (known as <\/span>Dixie Alley<\/span><\/a>) don\u2019t make the list. Similarly, most cities that see hurricanes along the Gulf of Mexico and Southeast Atlantic Coast also don\u2019t make the list.
