From an old swing hung from a large tree, little winding paths with wildflowers and lots of space to explore, Bartram’s is a Philly favorite. As the oldest botanical garden in America, the word \u2018charming\u2019 doesn\u2019t do it justice.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

9. Walk the Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u201cOne of my favorite places to capture the people of Philly is the <\/span>Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk<\/span><\/a>,\u201d says Matthew from <\/span>Matthew Hamilton Visuals<\/span><\/a>. \u201cIt blends both a sleek urban environment with natural surroundings to create a great place to capture the people of Philadelphia. \u201cThe Promenade and Gazebo next to Philadelphia Water Works, has the most beautiful views,\u201d shares <\/span>Laura McCarney Photography<\/span><\/a>. \u201cLocated on the Schuylkill River, you’ve got views of the city skyline and boats coming and going. The best time of day to be here is at sunset, the light reflecting off the water gives the most beautiful golden light. The Gazebo in itself, is a beautiful structure and the promenade makes for the perfect place to unwind, take in all the sights or enjoy a post dinner walk. This is a location where you can still see all the city sights in the distance, yet it’s quiet and serene and can really give you the best of both worlds.<\/span><\/p>\n

17. Experience the Philadelphia Museum of Art<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u201cThe <\/span>Philadelphia Museum of Art<\/span><\/a> is a very well known landmark in Philly that is boasting history and visitors,\u201d says Laura. \u201cHowever, the surrounding grounds are beautiful in their own right. While walking around the Art Museum, we came to this beautiful staircase surrounded by well manicured greenery. The stairs, golden sunset light and beautiful greenery made this for a wonderful location to take engagement portraits. In a city with lots of hustle and bustle, this was a quiet location with mostly people walking their dogs or reading a book. It’s a great spot if you’re looking for a quieter area of Philadelphia to relax and unwind.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

18. See the skyline at South Cliffside Path<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u201cIf you’re looking for a location that can give you a city skyline as well as greenery and charm, the South Cliffside Path may be the perfect place,\u201d suggests Laura. \u201cBoth of these photos are taken within a few feet of each other, one giving skyline views while the other is filled with greenery and romantic charm. This is not a large path, these photos were only taken about 15 feet apart. This location can give you a lot of variety without a lot of walking to different locations. This path has a hefty incline in some locations and lots of curves along<\/span> the way. This makes it a popular location for exercise enthusiasts who enjoy a view.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

19. Check out Callowhill and Strawberry Mansion\u2019s murals<\/span><\/h2>\n

rooftops and other public spaces at every turn and throughout every neighborhood. It\u2019s hard to <\/span>pick a top spot when there are over 900 artworks to explore on the <\/span>Public Art Archive\u2019s<\/span><\/a> interactive map of the city\u2019s murals<\/a>, but two of our favorite areas to become immersed in Philly\u2019s <\/span>street art are the Callowhill and Strawberry Mansion neighborhoods.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

20. Henry Avenue Bridge<\/span><\/h2>\n

“The area underneath the Henry Avenue Bridge is a hidden gem for exploration and photography,\u201d suggests <\/span>Sam Lustig Photo<\/span><\/a>. \u201cSlightly rugged and filled with graffiti, it is a striking dichotomy from the surrounding Wissahickon park that stunned me the first time I passed under it. There is something about the underside of things, those places that weren’t meant to be seen, the scaffolding of the utilitarian infrastructure above, that is endlessly fascinating to me. Getting there you will also pass through one of the more secluded areas of Wissahickon park with dense forest and well trodden single track trails.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

21. Spend the day at Lorimer Park<\/span><\/h2>\n

Sam also recommends, \u201cAnother area, just north of the city, is <\/span>Lorimer Park<\/span><\/a>. It is a lovely park with a large grassy area, a beautiful stream, and a good amount of wooded trails, but the gem of this park for me is the large and obvious overhanging boulder that is prominently displayed as you descend into the main entrance of the park. For rock climbers like myself, this specific boulder is quite unique as it is highly featured on its underside, allowing for many high quality climbing routes that have been established by the local climbing community. It is a place where many experienced rock climbers go, especially in the summer months, to boulder, have fun, and maintain their fitness. It is also a striking background for a portrait or action shot of some climbing.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Muralist, Kala Hagopian<\/a>, and Founder of Hagopian Arts<\/a> shares, “Home to more than 4,400 murals, Philadelphia is known as the \u201cMural Capital of the World.\u201d\u00a0 In any given neighborhood you are bound to encounter street art, bright explosions of color, texture, and form, an artist’s vision imprinted in the streets of Philadelphia.\u00a0 Throughout each and every corner of the city and especially in West Philadelphia, you can find yourself immersed in the unique beauty of to nature and wildlife, thanks to Hagopian Arts’ Eco Murals.<\/p>\n

The Eco Mural Project is a series of ecologically-themed public art pieces that have two goals: to beautify blank walls and educate the public about environmental degradation.\u00a0\u00a0These pieces are meticulous in every aspect of their creation: they are diligently researched and exquisitely detailed, resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces. Each mural contains a QR code that can be scanned by any smartphone and links directly back to Hagopian Arts’ site. There, you will find a write-up about each ecosystem or species depicted and the issues that they face, with links to environmental organizations and community project partners. The ongoing Eco Mural Project is a series of street-level murals aimed at raising environmental awareness by introducing depictions of at-risk ecosystems into urban spaces.\u00a0 Many of these murals can be found along Baltimore Ave in West Philadelphia, a sea turtle and coral reef next to Mariposa Coop, frogs across from 40th Street Station and on Davis Pharmacy, Nautili just off of 50th and Baltimore, murals depicting local flora on Hyacinth Montessori at 5050 Baltimore.
