San Francisco<\/span><\/a> home prices rose in August, marking seven straight months of double-digit growth. The city\u2019s median sale price rose 21 percent from a year earlier, to $1.15 million. Across the greater Bay Area, <\/span>prices were up 14.6 percent to just over $1 million. <\/span><\/p>\n

The supply of houses for sale has fallen every month for a year, giving buyers limited options and pushing up prices. There were fewer than 400 new listings in the city last month, the smallest number since December. Year over year, new listings were down 13.2 percent.<\/span>

With too little inventory to meet buyer demand, more than half of properties sold in less than two weeks and nearly 88 percent of homes fetched more than asking price. <\/span><\/p>\n

Hot Neighborhoods<\/h2>\n

In Noe Valley<\/a>, one of the city\u2019s most expensive neighborhoods, the median sale price hit $2.04 million in August, a record. Prices there rose more than 28 percent since last year.<\/p>\n

The biggest price gains were in the the Financial District ($1.8 million) and Western Addition<\/a> ($880,000), where values jumped more than 70 percent from a year ago.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Financial District<\/a> was San Francisco\u2019s fastest neighborhood, with half of homes selling in a single day.<\/span><\/p>\n
