Based on what our agents told us about these neighborhoods, 2016\u2019s list is all about access to public transit, affordability and charm.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/redfin.com\/blog\/2015\/12\/whats-spooking-homebuyers-hint-its-not-the-fed.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Affordability has topped buyers\u2019 lists of concerns for the past year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and many who dropped out of the market last year because of it are back with more experience under their belts. They\u2019ve done their research and identified those pockets that are still affordable, but also offer the stores, coffee shops and short rides to downtown that make communities livable. This increasingly rare combination can be found in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/redfin.com\/neighborhood\/35021\/IL\/Chicago\/Ukrainian-Village-Chicago-IL\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ukrainian Village<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Chicago, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/redfin.com\/neighborhood\/207731\/TN\/Nashville\/Eastwood#!region_id=207731&amp;region_type=1&amp;market=nashville\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eastwood<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Nashville, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/redfin.com\/neighborhood\/189129\/MN\/Minneapolis\/Ericsson#!market=twincities&amp;region_id=189129&amp;region_type=1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ericsson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Minneapolis and other hot \u2018hoods across the country. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor the first time, the San Francisco Bay Area is absent from Redfin\u2019s top 10 hottest neighborhoods list,\u201d said <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/redfin.com\/blog\/author\/nela-richardsonredfin-com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nela Richardson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Redfin\u2019s chief economist. \u201cAfter the median sale price surpassed a million dollars in March and inventory dropped to historic lows, San Franciscans have been feeling uninspired by local housing prospects. In fact, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/redfin.com\/blog\/2015\/05\/the-digital-diaspora.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one in four Bay Area users of Redfin.com are now searching for homes in other cities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. San Diego and Los Angeles, home to some of the the nation\u2019s highest real estate prices, also failed to make the top ranks this year.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another trend that has emerged in this year\u2019s hottest neighborhoods is that buyers are looking for homes and neighborhoods with character.
