Your own slice of paradise... a place for awakening the senses. Privately tucked away on over 5 acres of direct waterfront abutting the salt marsh of Joshua Cove, this thoughtfully designed home echoes the existing topography and carefully frames views in all directions and offers 2 bedrooms plus a sleeping loft, 2 full baths and an open floor plan, providing a comfortable space to unwind and relax. Modern and sleek in design with polished concrete floors, a cathedral ceiling and plenty of built-ins with storage space. The kitchen offers stainless steel appliances, including a gas cook-top, center island and a dining area. The living room boasts a cozy wood-burning fireplace, built-in seating and bookcases. Walls of glass from every room offer southern exposure allowing for breathtaking water-views of the salt marsh of Joshua Cove and beyond to Long Island Sound. Additional features include an office nook, an outdoor shower with hot & cold water, shed outfitted with electric and a wood-burning stove, garden with raised beds, lovely natural rock outcroppings and path to the salt marsh to launch a kayak or canoe. Serene, one of a kind location... wake up and go to bed with the beauty of each moment. Equidistant from N.Y.C. and Boston, minutes to the historic village green, beaches, shops and commuter rail.
A NOTE FROM THE OWNER, A WITNESS TO THE MARSH As a child I was always outside. Even on the coldest days of winter I was forever a gazer of the natural world. Once an adult, I sought the same: to not just look at the landscape, but to be embedded in it. The child merged with the adult when my husband and I discovered overgrown land abutting the salt marsh of Joshua Cove, just a mile from the center of Guilford. Through the thick forest, invaded with bramble and undergrowth, we could imagine the contours of the property falling gently to this basin of water and grasses, and then beyond to the Connecticut Sound. At the time these were not even visible. It became ours and a project to fulfill our vision began. It continued for the next several years. We did not build right away. Instead we homesteaded our purchased 5 acres over several years, clearing bit by bit. It spoke to us and we spoke back. Within our discourse, a landscape emerged that was breathtaking. So much so, we questioned if a house would intrude. We found gifted young architects and designers who understood this. This was not to be a house that would be an interruption, but rather a dwelling that would nestle respectfully within this created landscape of ours. Its profile is low like the horizon; it bends slightly to yield to the terrain. It merges with what nature has created like so many of today’s homes do not. It respects its surroundings. A full view of the marsh through the house from the driveway is your salutation; the all glass southern wall is your transformation of being outside from within. If you have observed a marsh you might have noted its beauty. But you can’t truly know it unless you witness it over hours, days and years. Since living here for a decade, I have come to appreciate the companionship of an ever changing view: the allure that every glance is a new reveal. I continue to take photographs, insanely thinking I can capture the beautiful and fleeting behavior of a salt marsh. I am never done because it is not...
