Zoning
A
Agricultural District
The carrying out of agricultural activities has long been, and continues to be, an important part of the way of life for Clinton County residents, and such activities provide a large portion of the income derived by the County’s population. Thus, to promote and protect this mainstay of the local economy, it has been established as official policy that the County should protect, preserve, and encourage the pursuit of agriculture by its residents. The creation of the A Agricultural District is an integral part of that policy. The A District encompasses sparsely developed areas which, because of the fertility of the soil, topography, the availability of water, and other factors, including the suitability of the land for the raising of animals, have high agricultural productivity. The regulations for this district are intended to preserve such agricultural land by severely restricting the encroachment of non-agricultural uses and structures. The owners and renters of property, whether farm or non-farm, in this district should realize that they will likely encounter the smells, sights, and sounds attendant to agricultural operations. This Zoning Code encourages the conduct of lawful activity including the conduct of agriculture operations consistent with the principles established by this Zoning Code and other applicable ordinances of the County of Clinton and the laws of the State of Illinois
