Escape to a simpler time in rural Eastern NC in this magnificently restored Federalist Home circa 1790-1813. Currently used for weddings and graduation parties for nearby Chowan University, this graceful historic home was disassembled and reassembled by expert craftsmen from Manor House Antiques. The vision of the owners includes using the out buildings(See History Document) as guest rooms. The restoration specialists meticulously numbered each piece of the structures taking pictures to insure that the reconstruction would return the house to its former glory. The structure was made of heart pine which was in excellent condition. The framework was built using mortise & tendon joints pegged together. Random width pine floors and moulded window sills add to its grace. Inside is a beautiful enclosed staircase with the original Soldier Blue milk paint still visible on the risers of the steps. An unusual arch with key block graces the staircase. At the top of the stairs is the original railing with the pickets on a diagonal with a chamfered post and lamb's tongue detail going from the floor to the ceiling joist above. Many H & L hinges remain. Two original board and batten doors are in the Laundry Room with another custom made matching door used for the bathroom. The has gone through a complete restoration with new sills, new 200 AMP electrical service and an HVAC with mini splits upstairs. Foamed insulation was sprayed in the walls followed by 4'' bats for air tight comfortable living year round. New pex piping and septic system were also added. A new kitchen was built with custom cabinets, granite counter tops, and a large single bowl sink. the Samsung appliances include a French Door Refrigerator, a quiet dishwasher, a 5 burner stove with griddle and also a front loading washer and dryer. The black stainless appliances are rated Energy Star. A Rinnai gas, tankless and new Thermopane windows throughout save on energy costs as well. See more info in the Documents.
