About East
Liberty
East Liberty, located between Shadyside and Highland Park, is a historic and commercial Pittsburgh neighborhood with a landmark church spire and a modern retail corridor. The neighborhood’s energy concentrates at Penn Avenue and South Highland Avenue, where cafes, galleries, and small storefronts mix with sidewalk bustle. Community pillars include Kelly Strayhorn Theater, East Liberty Presbyterian Church, and the East Liberty Farmers Market. Brick rowhouses and mid-century apartment buildings sit alongside newer mixed-use blocks. Broad streets and busways shape a city-forward rhythm, while pocket parks and courtyards soften the edges. Bakery counters, late-night bites, and performance calendars keep the streets active across the week.
