About French
Quarter
French Quarter, located between Broad Street and the Charleston City Market, is a historic and arts-forward Charleston neighborhood with cobblestone lanes and gallery-lined storefronts. The neighborhood’s character concentrates along East Bay Street at Cumberland Street, where courtyard entrances, wine bars, and late-night kitchens spill light onto the sidewalks. The Dock Street Theatre, the French Huguenot Church, and the Gibbes Museum of Art act as cultural anchors within a few walkable blocks. Wrought-iron gates and pastel single houses frame pocket gardens and hidden alleys such as Philadelphia Alley. Waterfront breezes drift in from nearby Waterfront Park, while church spires and steeples mark the skyline. Daily rhythms center on gallery openings, carriage tours, and café tables tucked into shaded courtyards.
