Public Parks, Trails And Preserves District

This district comprises publicly owned conservation and recreation lands. This district includes lands owned by a federal, state or county governmental entity, which are maintained as closely as possible to their natural state or that provide public recreation opportunities. The resources present on conservation lands are unique or rare, and are at risk of loss or damage. The primary use of these conservation lands is resource preservation, not public recreation. Examples of such lands include federal wildlife refuges, and state and county natural area preserves. The primary uses of public recreation lands (parks and trails) are passive and active recreation. These lands may also include valuable resources that should be preserved. The purpose of the district is threefold: To identify and protect unique and outstanding examples of publicly owned fish and wildlife habitat conservation areas or unique geologic features; To acknowledge the state, county and federal governments' ongoing responsibility to protect critical areas and other resource values on lands within this district; and To identify federal, state, and county-owned parks and trails suitable for public recreation.
