Overall we had a good experience with Redfin Mortgage. At the start, our broker (Katie) was great. She was knowledgable and took time to walk us through documents, options, and whatever else came up. As we got further through the process, the underwriting team seemed either less organized or overwhelmed (our purchase was during COVID real estate boom). Everything seemed to get done, but maybe could have been slightly more efficiently or more timely. Overall, this was our first mortgage, and we had a good experience. Of all the horror stories we have heard from other agencies, we had a smooth purchase and probably could not ask for much more.

They were great! - She was super patient with us (first time buyers), answered, calls and emails and followed up very diligently and was super informative . They made the house hunting experience easier for us. We never ended up closing on the house due to Covid impacts (nothing to do with Redfin) which was utterly heartbreaking for us, but they got us the documents we needed to pull our offer and they were extremely empathetic and understanding. We would definitely use them again!

Not many people may appreciate this but I really like that Katie was blunt, straightforward, honest. Since Redfin Mortgage is new compared to other well-established lender, I was extremely worried. I often questioned how Redfin could give me such a low interest rate without buying points or charging origination fees. Katie assured that Redfin can because their employees are salaried. My loan will get serviced but to a big mortgage companies like PennyMac, which I am okay with if that means I can get a lower rate. Whatever Katie told me during the process turns out to be true, no surprises at closing. I am very relieved and happy that I trusted Katie. She is also very knowledgeable and answered all my questions and concerns. Thanks again Katie for being patience, understanding, prompt, and honest and for not being a salesperson!

We worked with Katie after switching from another lender due to Redfin Mortgage having much lower closing costs. She did fine overall but when we attempted to float down our interest rate it did not go well. Katie informed us that we could lower our rate by a certain amount for a certain price. We spoke on the phone and she informed me that there was no rush. I emailed her that evening and informed her that we would like to move forward with the lower rate. To our disappointment, she emailed back the following morning that our email had come in after 10 pm (it was actually 9:59) and the previous day's float down price could not be honored. However, for another $1000 we could still get that rate. This felt like a bait and switch, especially considering we were told there was no rush and there was no mention of a 10 pm deadline. The rate difference would have meant saving us $16K over the life of the loan.
