I am sharing what I emailed my agent today regarding Focus Escrow: Initially, I wasn't happy that my mom's name was still misspelled on the Death Affidavit after I had clarified the correct spelling of her name via email beforehand but it was not worth making a fuss over. I understand that there was a handmade correction but it's still a finalized document recorded with an error. I received my copy the other day in the mail closed with only a piece of tape. The entire folder envelope was open. One of the employees indicated this is sent by the County so the fault does not lie with Focus Escrow. Today, I received my 1099 from Focus Escrow with my full Social Security Number, the amount of the proceeds from the sale, a full detail of the final closing statement, my previous address, and my current address (city) misspelled in a thin, small envelope that arrived ripped open. It clearly went somewhere else because someone circled the incorrect address. At this point, I am going to have to closely monitor my credit, and everything else associated with my identity in the event that whomever opened this envelope attempts identity theft considering they would have everything necessary to do so at this point. This is really frustrating and discouraging as I have no recourse for this in the event someone does try to misuse my information. At minimum, these sensitive documents should be mailed Certified. I would have paid the mail fees myself if it meant protecting my information.
