This was by far the worst lender experience! I have ever had. Matthews a very good salesman but has zero follow through. Since this wasn’t my first time buying a house I am familiar with most of the process. I noticed Matthew was really vague on answers and when I would call to inquire about updates or anything that is needed from us he would reply (almost every time) “let me check on that and get back to you”...and then he wouldn’t. I would have to call again or email and would still get brushed off. This was enough to drive someone crazy but the topper was that our closing was delayed because of things like this. All of a sudden the day before we were supposed to close (which mind you had already been delayed because of our builder, although I kept checking in with Matthew to make sure the lender was ready for close and didn’t need anything further from us) the underwriter needed all these new documents that they could have asked for weeks before. Matthew of course took no responsibility and had no answers as to why they were requesting new information. He was completely unapologetic when I expressed my frustration that closing was being delayed due to goodmortgage and not because of our negligence. He even argued with me over the process. Our lock for our interest rate was almost up so I can only assume they were trying to make more money? I was left with so few answers and no one that wanted to take responsibility or apologize for anything. I finally wrote an email to Matthew, underwriting, and processing stating that we had done everything asked of us and that good mortgage would be responsible to pay the daily fee on our interest rate lock since our lock was up. Magically, the next morning I woke up to a long string of emails saying “we need to get this closed today”. All of the demands of underwriting disappeared just like that. How could that be? They scheduled a last minute close that we had to drop everything we were doing to make it there (including rescheduling meetings at our jobs) because they said it had to happen now.
My husband had a conversation with Matthew after we signed the papers because there were so many significant balls dropped (including any sort of wiring instructions- had to wire funds for our down payment via phone with our bank while at the signing table) his response to my husband was that he couldn’t talk at that time but he would follow up next week to get feedback. Wouldn’t you know it, he never followed up!
BEWARE he is a good sales man but once you commit to the loan it will be a nightmare from then on! I DO NOT RECOMMEND Matthew or goodmortgage.com
