We were given misleading information regarding the amount we could be approved for in the beginning of the process with Guild. Well into the process, we fell in love with a home and it was a bit over what we had hoped to spend, but well within what Guild said we were approved for. We requested an official approval for the home and found out that our options were extremely limited and we had hoops to jump through to even be able to purchase the home.... when seeking explanations for this, I spoke with Vince on the phone who very clearly had NO time for my questions. I asked him if there were any resources he recommended to a first time home buyer looking to become more informed (for which I am terribly sorry—should have asked my agent or literally anyone else) and was told to “just google it.” At that point in the process, it was more of a hassle to switch lenders than it was worth and would further delay the process, so we toughed it out. After that, I worked and spoke only with other personnel in the office and had nice, helpful interactions from that point on. However, we then received word from a friend and coworker who was called by Guild for an employment verification. She reported they were extremely difficult to work with, sending her contradictory information and making the process a general headache which took days to resolve. Lastly, at our closing, remarks were made about the total redundancy and inefficiency in the paperwork, with the signing agent stating that “it’s the most ridiculous lender paperwork I’ve ever seen.” All things considered, our experience with Guild was mediocre at best, and we do not, and will not be recommending Guild to others in the future.
