Terrible experience. At first seemed promising - we had a complicated financial profile, and he agreed to work with us, which was not a given. Customer service rapidly turned terrible, however. He (reasonably) wanted updated financial documents, but once those were provided, he dragged his feet for about two weeks on work he needed to do, and blew three self-stated deadlines while we were waiting to put in an offer. When we complained about the blown deadlines, his explanation was that the industry was very busy, and that (as close to verbatim as we can recall) "if we weren't happy with [his] level of attention, we could go elsewhere."
The delay resulted in competing offers coming in, and we lost out on the house. (We eventually used another lender who was able to do this same work in a single day.)
After our first experience, things were relatively smooth for a while, but then he failed to inform us about new lending regulations that would affect our homebuying process until months after they had been issued. When he did inform us, he made mistakes about the date that the regulations would take effect. He then told us that the new regulations would prevent us from obtaining the kind of mortgage that we wanted (which they actually did not, as we eventually found out from the lender we finally switched to). We don't know whether this was his mistake or just his unwillingness to push back on his underwriters, but either way, he definitely gave the impression of being more interested in working for himself than us.
The final straw came when we finally had an offer accepted, and he wanted us to remove items from the home inspection contingency because they made his underwriters uncomfortable. Our realtor adroitly flagged this as a problem, and something that could jeopardize our contractual requirements. Rob grudgingly agreed to let the provision remain in, but we had had enough at that point. We took him up on his own advice, and went elsewhere.
