We chose Mountains to Sound because we were impressed with the quality of work we had seen them do on seller-provided inspection reports. Their organization and style is visually appealing and easy to read. Unfortunately, the inspector we were matched with was not nearly as thorough as what we had seen this group provide on other properties. Several important details were missed (one example includes completely skipping over a slanted chimney that we later found out posed a serious risk of toppling onto the house and would need to be repaired immediately). I write this with a full understanding that one inspector is never going to find every issue with a house in a single visit. The report itself is also filled with many, many disclosures on this point. But when the report misses big issues that can be seen regardless of the time of day or circumstance, it seems to highlight that the inspector needs to do a better job at being attentive to detail and doing they job they were hired for. As a side note, even though this doesn't have much bearing on whether or not the inspection was done well, it was also a bit of an uncomfortable experience because our inspector only spoke directly to the men in our group when talking about what he was seeing, the process, or asking for follow up questions. He would only directly speak to women—including myself—if we directly asked him a question. And even then, the second half of the explanation would be directed to the men in our group. I would consider using Mountains to Sound again, but only if we were matched with someone else. My hope is that this was a one-off situation and is not representative of other providers in their group. My rating for the inspector we were matched with would be a 5, but I'm giving a 7 simply because I've seen this group do great work for other customers an properties.
