We have dealt with many mortgage companies in the past and I have to say our experience with Better was the best. From start to finish, there was transparency and a team of folks to help us along the way. After filling out the initial application, you will have the ability to review what you have been pre-approved as well as the numerous rate options you have available to you. I have never seen a mortgage company offer this much insight into how your rate is affected by either reducing the credits they are providing you or by you bringing additional money to the table. You will receive a table of 10 different options with clear details on the credits you you will receive from Better/additional money to pay down points, the APR on the note and your resulting mortgage payment. Typically you'd have to jump on a call with your mortgage broker and they rattle off a bunch of numbers while you try to keep up. I was able to review a menu of options and find which option worked best for our family without feeling rushed. During each step in the process, you'll deal with a different individual (initial application, underwriting and closing) but there is a seamless transition between folks. When you call their direct line, if they are unavailable you might get a customer service rep but they will quickly get them connected to you if they happen to only be unavailable at the moment. I think only once I waited 30 minutes for a call back, all other times I spoke with the person I was looking for on their direct line. Due to an unusual deed restriction on the property, our closing was delayed but they were great on helping us extend our closing date and ensuring that we kept our great rate with no penalties or fees incurred. Once you get into the thick of the approval process, there is a bit of leg work ensuring you have your financial docs in order but this is no different than any other mortgage company. The big difference though is their approach to the process by breaking things apart into individual, straightforward tasks to get done before going to closing. Each task gives you the ability to upload docs specific to that task, and also have communication (chat) back and forth for that specific task. It makes it way easier than trying to coordinate via email. All email correspondence is mostly notifications to tell you that you have a new task available. We just closed on the house today and during closing both our Agent and the Title company had nothing but positive things to say about THEIR experience with Better as well. Title said the folks at Better were engaged throughout the process and would frequently check-in to ensure things were progressing and no tasks were pending on their side. All in all, everyone has been very impressed. It was a fantastic experience and I will absolutely recommend Better to my friends and family.
