The Mortgage Gallery was recommended to us from someone other than Redfin. When we first spoke with the company, we were very impressed with Mike's knowledge and willingness to answer questions, which led us to choose his company. However, after the process began, things went downhill. We completed all requirements in a timely manner, even the various follow-up questions and documentation requests (even though it turns out some of it wasn't actually needed from us after all, or was for items that we had clearly identified previously). The biggest issue we had, however, was a lack of communication once the process was sent to the underwriter. We found out 5 minutes before closing time on a Friday afternoon, after we had transferred all utilities to our name and wired the funds for closing, that there was a chance we would not close the following Monday due to pending questions from the underwriter. We know that this is outside of The Mortgage Gallery's immediate control; however, the lack of communication and follow through on their part did not help the situation. After numerous phone calls and emails the day of the closing, we were finally told it wasn't going to happen. This notification occurred after the scheduled closing appointment had already passed. The next five days were spent waiting for information as they heard back from the original underwriter, informing us that we would need to pay another $400 for a second appraisal on the home. When we asked for other options, they recommended moving to a different underwriter, which they did, and it was approved quickly, but the final closing occurred a week after originally scheduled. We do not understand why the didn't do this when the problem first arose. This was an inconvenience for us, the buyers, as well as for the sellers because they returned to the area for the closing only to not be able to do so. The worst part was that after the closing when we sent our comments and feedback to Mike, his response was "You may not realize how very lucky you are that your transaction is even in position to close." It is for these reasons that we highly recommend you look to different companies for your mortgage needs.
