Hi everyone, I’m Katy from Redfin and today we’re going to talk about renting vs. buying. Renting is great. When you break your dishwasher all you need to do is pick up the phone and call your landlord. But when you own your own home - that expense is on you.
So think about your lifestyle, do you like the freedom of renting? The fact that you can just pick up and go? Or are you ready for the responsibility and potential investment of owning your own home?
Length of ownership is key here. If you’re ready to put down roots, owning your own home can be a great financial investment and it can really pay off for the future.
While you’re thinking about your future finances, think about your current financial situation too and take a look at the market around you.
In a lot of areas, renting is just as expensive as paying mortgage payment and how great is it right a check towards owning your own home versus giving a check to a landlord every month?
All of these factors are part of determining whether you want to rent or buy and answering that question is really the first step towards home ownership.
