Cle Elum, WA
Overview
Cle Elum, WA, is recognized for its outdoor recreation, like hiking, horseback riding, and winter sports. Cle Elum is home to around 2,100 people, making it one of the smaller cities in Washington. A fun fact about Cle Elum is that it was long inhabited by the local indigenous Kittitas peoples, who named it Tle-el-Lum, meaning "swift water." The name was changed to Clealum by the Northern Pacific Railway company in the late 1800s and was renamed again in 1902 to its current name. Another fun quirk is that in 1918 a fire destroyed most of the city, with only the bank building surviving. The bank still stands today.
