I would have preferred more Ali to be more available via phone throughout the entire process, rather than just at the beginning when we were deciding whether to commit to the loan. He was personable and very helpful in answering our questions at first, however on more than one occasion later in the process he told us he would call back to answer a question but never called. There were also delays in him getting back to us with answers to certain questions, and we were confused about why he couldn't obtain the information we needed in a more timely manner. He was calm, relaxed, and easy going during the closing process, which was helpful at times. At other times this created anxiety for us, as we were first time homebuyers and would have liked more frequent communication and updates.
Pre-approvals were done extremely quickly and allowed us to make offers asap. Tiffanie was amazing as well, she got us closed Within 13 days, was communicative, and even helped us recast by putting more money down after getting the closing disclosures.
I felt like there was very little proactive communication with me. I had to constantly reach out to get updates on the status of things. Did not feel like I was being prioritized as a customer.
Ali has been a tremendous support throughout this process, providing clear explanations and guiding us every step of the way. He was friendly, attentive, and made communication effortless. I?m extremely pleased with the service we received from Ali, April, and the rest of the Bay Equity team during our loan process.
1) We were completely mislead about Mortgage Rates from the start of lending process. We were told a much lower Mortgage Rate initially (5.75% on a townhome !). We were made to believe that we would get a much lower rate with Bay Equity and hence we didn't shop other lenders.
Then, they kept increasing the rate to 6.35% and then 6.5% finally.
If only they told us that it was going to be a 6.5% to begin with, it would've been a much more transparent process.
2) They charged us $10,000 for a hidden point ! We had never asked to buy a point. They should've just been honest that to even get that 6.5% rate we needed to pay $10,000.
WHY do they keep making all these ridiculous stories ? They should just be honest with their customers.
3) The email responses from the agents was very slow, unresponsive, there was NO transparency with the case status updates. We were also asked to do a lot of last minute things. There should be better communication.
Overall, we had an extremely stressful and unpleasant experience with Bay Equity. We had almost reached a point where we thought we'd just give up on the house.
Ali and April were very approachable, helpful, responsive, and the website was easy to use. Emails and texts were sent frequently that kept us informed of the process.

Ali worked so quickly and efficiently. He patiently answered all my questions and kept us in the loop about the status of our loan from initial pre-approval through to closing day.
He was responsive most of the time and tried to educate me about the loan process. He locked the interest rate quickly. However, he never updated it with lower one although I was promised at the beginning that it would automatically happen if the rate goes down.
Everything from start to finish was literally stress free. Not many people can say that! Ali was a gem to work with. We will use him for any and all future lending needs.

I was first time home buyer and need more information to make a decision; pros and cons depending on different options I have such as percentage of down payment, tax inclusions, or more.
For and foremost, a lack of communication was really a problem. For example, I didn?t know that this process requires to reach out to my company. As it is personal issue, it is embarrassing that someone reach out to the contact my manager without knowing that they will do. I should?ve known before they contact him so that I could explain what will happen to him in advance. I asked many times if a lender reach out to the contact, but I didn?t hear anything until he?ve already called him and failed to get the documents.
Also, Stock market where I put some money was changing quickly and I need to careful abut when I sell it. However, I wasn?t able to hear exactly when and how much I really need to prepare until a couple of days prior to the closing. It?d be good if I could?ve kept updated and got a sense about it during the process.
Another difficulty was that I got a disclosure for an estimate but no one really went through thoroughly the document and had me signed. I read it on my own and received some delayed answers for my specific questions. As a first time home buyer, I sometimes don?t know what to ask.
Last but not least, as a consumer, interest rate is important and I wanted to know as soon as possible once it is fixed. In my case, I was blinded from all the interest rates until I get the final disclosure because the lender didn?t take a note of the rates for me and then no longer had access to the rates during escrow and etc. In worst case scenario, I may not be able to accept the interest rate fixed on that date in the end and there?s no time to fix things due to the delayed information. It is important to share the information with borrowers with written communication right after it is fixed.
