Within a few days of moving in I discovered that a ceiling fan in my new house wasn't working. When I investigated I discovered that power had never even been run to the light. The previous owners had simply screwed it up to the ceiling in the living room. I also discovered that two of the six outlets in my kitchen were inoperable. These are REALLY basic things that the inspection should have caught but didn't.
