Working with First American Title, the process overall felt scattered and messy. Having just bought a home 3 months ago and working with a different title company in the area, I had an understanding and standards for what to expect during closing. Now, going through it with First American Title and Kimberly Chose's team to sell my condo, I was surprised by how much it lacked in organization. First American Title had my husband and I both fill out title documents separately because they didn't understand we were married because we have different last names (pretty common these days). Their online portal for filling out documents doesn't feel secure with our entire social security numbers on display and visible on the PDF/print out. They confused the spellings of our names on our closing documents so it was a stressful hassle when it came time to sign documents with a notary. They didn't communicate regularly with my listing agent or transaction coordinator directly so I had to be the go-between several times. The final straw was that they got our new address wrong on our commission check. Thankfully we had been in the area running errands and opted to pick it up, otherwise that would have been another hassle of the check going to a different address and it needing to be cancelled and re-printed. It just feels like operationally they need to step it up to stop making such simple errors. Or if you do use them: just be ready to be very particular and double check everything! Kim was quick to respond to emails and was working hard to fix the spelling mistakes on the fly, but I did feel like she was overwhelmed and busy throughout our entire experience. Personally, my father was on my original title and he recently passed away and not once did she or a member of her team say "I'm so sorry for your loss" as they were preparing documents and editing the title, it was just all business and questions about the value of his estate and what not. It's a simple kind gesture that can make customers feel like you care, and that connection was missed. I didn't enjoy my experience and at this time don't feel confident in recommending their services to someone I know.
