It wasn't terrible, but I just felt like the title agent wasn't very knowledgeable. The sale was from our foreign LLC, and the title agent sent a random email out just a few days prior to closing that put everyone in a panic because he didn't do his research beforehand. It was a very flippant, uninformed, ill-thought-out email that, had it been correct, would have significantly delayed closing and possibly kicked our contract.
It wouldn't have been an issue, except that the title agent was sitting on this deal for at least a week. He had an entire week to drop that bombshell, but instead, he waits until just days prior to closing; the point of no return. I tried to contact his office numerous times to get to the bottom of it and figure out what we needed to do because his emails and instructions were ridiculously vague, but the receptionist refused to connect me with anyone else but him. I asked to speak to the office attorney since the title agent refused to answer his phone or respond to voicemails thinking that the attorney could iron it out for me, but the receptionist flat refused. Everything turned out okay in the end because the title agent was thankfully totally incorrect, but it was still a very shocking experience with the worst possible timing.
All in all, I just felt very unprofessional. I've sold several properties in the past and never had an experience like that. Maybe he was new? Either way, the title agent needs to work on his communication skills and the receptionist needs to understand that if a client asks to speak to someone else, then she just needs to connect the call instead of being difficult on purpose. Simple.
