I would recommend this law firm to NJ home buyers whose purchase isn't their first rodeo, but definitely not to first time homeowners in NJ who require a little more hand-holding. I felt I was onboarded as a "standard" client and pushed down to working with Traci the paralegal most of the time because I wasn't high-profile enough to deserve Kristen's attention, which I understand is "standard". I hired Kristen because my amazing real estate agent recommended her, but ended up having to work with Traci most of the time. Traci quickly made my positive experience go sideways. The first order of business was Traci telling me to list out everything that needed repair in the property being closed. I provided this, only to have Traci tell me that it wasn't in the right format of her liking. She shared a sample template, so I had to revise my work and convert the same sentences into bullet points. Traci then copy-pasted verbatim in the letter to the seller's attorney. The subsequent experiences did not get any better. I felt I had to either do the work myself and straight-out ask if "you" the attorney who I hired can please do the attorney's work and exercise due diligence and represent me. Even the topic about about open liens and open permits did not come up at all. I had to research this, then ask, direct, and follow-up with Kristen and team to require the seller to close out these items. I dread to think about the financial risk I would have been exposed to had I waited around for Traci to take initiative with do the bare minimum approach. As a first time homeowner in NJ and unfamiliar with the closing process, I had the expectation that my attorney would outline the steps and walk me through each. This was non-existent, and I had to instead do research on my own and ask about things that I felt were missed. Traci tried to take care of things herself, but in the process, gave unhelpful half-answers and blocked me from getting to speak to Kristen directly. Kristen's direct line goes to her team of paralegals who screen the calls, so direct access to Kristen is not always there. It's similar with emails, where Kristen doesn't respond when she sees that one of her paralegals has responded. I ended up having to have my questioned answered and everything explained to me by my real estate agent, who was shocked that "Kristen" did not tell me anything. I even had to get regular status updates on pending paperwork from my agent because Kristen or her team provides updates to him without including me. Whenever I was able to get a response from Kristen or the opportunity to speak with her, she was helpful and professional and offered a nice sense of reassurance. But it did bother me that she ended every conversation with, "If you have any questions, just give me a call". I knew a paralegal would end up being the one to pick up the call. Traci, who has a more abrasive personality than Kristen, would often tell me that Kristen is unavailable and then press hard on what it is that I need because she (Traci) can answer (usually with generic playbook responses). It was a trip always having to tell her to please have Kristen call back. On the day of closing, I had a follow-up item with Kristen to resolve with the seller's attorney. Kristen told me call her back when I'm at the site for closing. I called Kristen. Sure enough, on speaker phone and in front of all the counterparties present in the room, Traci picked up and straight-out told me that Kristen does not need to be present during closing and made her attempt to deny me access to Kristen again. Everyone's eyes widened in disbelief how I'm denied access to my attorney. Only after having to repeat myself about 3 times that Kristen told me to call her did Traci stop raising her voice on me and patch me through to Kristen. I would rate recommending Kristen higher if I got to work with Kristen directly. Maybe I was spoiled by my real estate agent and my lending agent, who have a response time of almost immediately whenever I texted or emailed, typically after work when I can focus on personal matters. Kristen's law firm is formally closed after business hours, so I had to take time out of my own work hours to handle close items with Kristen and team, which takes a little away from a positive experience.
