The Dutton House is sited on a quiet, winding road in the Chevy Chase Canyon, one of greater LA's best kept secrets. From the house, it's a short trip down the hill to The Chevy Chase Country Club and the popular Wild Oak Cafe. Worlds away from LA but minutes to the Rose Bowl, shops, and freeways. In 1963, Thomas Dutton and wife Geraldine, (daughter of Frank Strong, developer of the Pantages Theatre and Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel) purchased a house designed by architect Richard Fleming (partner of the famous Southland firm Buff and Hensman). His design is a Mid-century Modern tree house with redwood decks wrapping both floors. The unique roof framing provides a beautiful ''spine of light'' for the open-plan, top floor of living, dining and kitchen; bedrooms are on the lower floor. Sensitive updates in 2010, include a Bosch kitchen suite, Fleetwood for the few window replacements, solid oak floors, new redwood decks and railings, plumbing, HVAC, exterior lighting, roof and electrical, all executed to high standards. Original features, such as the Fleming-designed walnut cabinetry were carefully refurbished to maintain that quality of authenticity, The Dutton House earned historical designation and Mills Act contract, substantially lowering property taxes.
