John Andre Gougeon, A. I. A. , 1963; Antonio Aguilar, Landscape Designer. From the street, Gougeon's board and batten, stucco-clad adaptation of the region's popular ranch-style home yields an aesthetic which seamlessly conforms to the traditional design of the growing suburbs of the East San Gabriel Valley. Although a sense of conformity defines the public view from the street, the interior of the design counters it with a profound exercise in modernity. Extensive use of glass walls throughout the interior eliminate any barrier between the natural and built environment, thus engaging in a dialogue with Aguilar's contribution to the property's footprint. Commissioned by Atlantic Savings and Loan as part of a larger development, Gougeon's unassuming facade provides insight into the relationship between modernism and conforming design during the growth and development of the East San Gabriel Valley. As a case study in postwar modernity, Gougeon's L-shaped, corner lot design strongly reflects his architectural training under USC's Conrad Buff, Cal Straub, and Donald Hensman. While only two of the houses of the development were completed, they provide insight to exemplary modern architecture in postwar Southern California. 2 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Den/Office.

North Glendora- With a minimalist approach to design, the architect incorporates an extensive use of glass and wood to amplify a pictorial and organic setting. With an acknowledgement to southern California's casual indoor/outdoor living, Gougeon aptly placed the axis of the house in line with the corner lot on which it sits. The well-planned architect's modernist interpretation of the California ranch house has generous, but not disproportionate living spaces. A center ridge-beam skylight spans the length of the den, and into the laundry room creating a design feature reminiscent of Cliff May's work of the period. The result is a defining style of post-war architecture in the San Gabriel Valley. Two, large bedroom suites with private lanai, den which could be used as a third bedroom, Formal dining room, living room, large area in kitchen for dining.
