The 1795 Ebenezer Hoyt House. Listed on the State Registry of Historic Places. This is one of the very first homes in Kent, built on land from the original split of 50,000 acres in 1738. The driveway dates to 1738 as well, originally called Twenty Rod Highway. It was put in to ease access to the Iron Beds in South Kent, now Ore Hill. It is a very well preserved 18th Century gem at the south end of Kent’s lovely Cobble Valley. The home retains many of its original features. Wide board Chestnut floors, bee hive oven, exposed hand-hewn beams and more. There is an old one-room schoolhouse c. 1900 that would make a perfect guest house just outside the back door. The large tobacco barn has been converted into a wonderful artists studio/loft space. The lower level offers a chicken coop and enclosed run as well as storage. There is a small rushing brook that flows just outside. On the west side of the driveway there is a 2+ car garage and a small fenced-in area for your dog. The Hoyt House was the residence of Ebenezer Hoyt, Jr. who fought in the American Revolutionary War as part of Captain Fuller’s Company of Kent and the 13th Regiment of New York. As it turns out, Ebenezer Hoyt was also my great-great-great-great grandfather's brother!
