Set along the quiet stretch of Plantation Road just outside historic Lewes, this 1953 farmhouse stands as a rare surviving example of mid‑century rural Delaware architecture. Resting on 0.74 acres of open, sun‑washed land, the home evokes the character of the region’s post‑war homesteads—simple, sturdy, and thoughtfully connected to the landscape. This home is not located in a homeowner's association and has no deed restrictions! The electricity is supplied by Delaware Electric Cooperative. The residence retains the charm of its original hardwood flooring, a hallmark of mid‑century craftsmanship, while sensitive updates have brought renewed life to its classic form. A screened front porch, reminiscent of traditional coastal farm dwellings, welcomes visitors with views across the wide, level grounds dotted with mature trees and garden beds. Inside, the home blends its historic bones with modern refinements. The remodeled bathroom features a tiled shower and contemporary inline water heater, while the kitchen—once the heart of a working farmhouse—now offers Dekton countertops, custom lighting, and a raised seating bar that honors the original footprint while elevating its function. A cozy lofted upper level, fully carpeted, reflects the adaptive use of attic spaces common in mid‑century rural homes, providing additional living or sleeping quarters beneath the original roofline. Outdoors, the expansive lot—larger than many in the Lewes area—offers the feel of a traditional homestead with room for gardens, gatherings, and quiet enjoyment. A large deck extends the living space, creating a natural transition between the home and its pastoral surroundings. With its 1953 construction, preserved architectural character, and thoughtful modern updates, 20188 Plantation Road stands as a rare blend of Lewes heritage and contemporary comfort—an increasingly uncommon find in this rapidly developing coastal region.

AR-1
Agricultural Residential District
The purpose of these districts is to provide for a full range of agricultural activities and to protect agricultural lands, as one of the county's most valuable natural resources, from the depreciating effect of objectional, hazardous and unsightly uses. They should also protect established agricultural operations and activities. These districts are also intended for protection of watersheds, water resources, forest areas and scenic values and, at the same time, to provide for low-density single-family residential development, together with such churches, recreational facilities and accessory uses as may be necessary or are normally compatible with residential surroundings. The AR regulations seek to prevent untimely scattering of more-dense urban uses, which should be confined to areas planned for efficient extension of public services.
