Chaires, located between Capitola and Lake Lafayette, is a rural and rural Tallahassee neighborhood with a two-lane country-road rhythm and a landscape of pastureland and pine. The neighborhood’s character concentrates around the Chaires Crossroads at Chaires Cross Road and Mahan Drive, where feed-and-farm storefronts, roadside diners, and weekend traffic set the tempo. Historic farmhouses and newer homes sit on larger lots, with long driveways and wide skies shaping the streetscape. Lake Lafayette’s edges and nearby greenways frame a slower, outdoors-forward routine. Community touchstones include The Red Shed, Chaires School, and the Chaires Community Center.
