‘Sitting on top of the world!’ Turn a figure-of-speech into your new daily reality in this bespoke cedar home perched at 4,000 feet elevation in upcountry Maui. With open-beam construction, soaring ceilings, strong wooded accents, and a giant propane fireplace serving as the great room’s centerpiece, the home feels a bit mountain lodge, balanced delicately in Hawaiiana. Better than any wide-screen, abundant oversized windows frame the dramatic panorama of bi-coastal Maui below. Wake to the dusty pink light of dawn, setting Mauna Kahalawai aglow and end the day with your living spaces bathed top to bottom in sunset’s golden hour. Chilly Kula mornings are tamed by central heat—an expense, in turn, tamed by a photovoltaic system that completely offsets typical annual electric costs. Similarly, the covered, heated deck allows for cozy nighttime entertaining (or maybe just stargazing for two?). An oversized detached garage with ag office mingles with surrounding native landscaping on the property, two full acres dotted with cherished Hawaiian koa and ‘ohia, and fruiting trees.
