Down a tree-lined drive to a bridge over a lively stream to an inviting country colonial in a 16-acre park-like setting - this is a must see for someone who wants a special country retreat. A deep breath brings in the tangy scent of the many white pines, Norway spruce and Christmas trees that border the property and are scattered throughout. The flower beds are loaded with daffodils, croci and snow bells. The home is circa 1889 with a tasteful addition in 1955.The lower level family room is a space you will not want to leave in the winter with its stone fireplace, working woodstove, heated tile floors, exposed beams and views to the stream and tranquil pond. The kitchen has convenient center-island design, a sunny breakfast area with bay window and skylight and water views. Adjacent is a roomy laundry/storage room. The remainder of the lower level offers a tidy walk-out workshop and more storage. Jersey winders lead upstairs to an attractive living room which features gleaming random width wood floors, another fireplace, stone wall and open beams. Adjacent is the billiard room, with library shelves, fireplace, office nook and access to both the back drive and a balcony deck overlooking the stream and dam in the front. This level has two bedrooms and a full tiled bath. The upper level, again reached by Jersey winders, features two more bedrooms with roofline ceilings, quaint angled closets and a full bath. The original stone and stud walls remind you of the attractive and practical way things used to be done. The two upper floors are of exquisite period hardwoods. Completing the improvements is a 34x40 pole barn with high storage upstairs and equipment/boat storage below. The drive to the barn is sheltered by spreading pines and lined with natural rock walls. This property is only 10 minutes from Route 78 and an hour to NYC.

Agricultural Residential District
This district is intended to protect and preserve areas of important and critical natural resources, including steep slopes, woodlands, water resources, prime agricultural soils, and the views and vistas which help define the rural, agricultural character of the Township. Within the present agricultural areas, the intent is to provide for continued agricultural and agriculturally oriented uses and to preserve the open agricultural character of these areas. Active and potential agricultural land should not be converted from agricultural use to another use unless and until there is no other land available in Alexandria Township to accommodate the nonagricultural use. Within the nonagricultural areas of the district, the intent is to preserve the critical natural resources, particularly steep slopes, woodlands and stream corridors, from the adverse impacts of land clearing and disturbance, while allowing an appropriate low level of residential use. Land uses within this district are permitted in both use type and intensity which provide maximum opportunities to ensure the availability of prime agricultural soils and soils of statewide importance and to preserve the Township's natural resources, in accordance with the intent of the Planning Area designations of the New Jersey State Plan within the Township.
