Agricultural Distric
To protect and preserve prime agricultural soils and valuable farming operations. The Agriculture A District is established for the following purposes: To retain the Township’s rural character, protect farms and natural resources; To preserve prime agriculture and farmland considering topography, soil type and classification, in accordance with Section 603c7 of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code MPC, Act of 1968, P.L. 805, No. 247 as reenacted and amended; To preserve agriculture operations, underlain with prime agriculture soils and a long-term probability for the continuation of farming; To sustain agriculture activities by permitting accessory businesses on the farmstead and home occupations provided the activity meets conditions that will prevent added stress on roadways and will protect environmental features and natural resources; To give high priority to protecting continuous areas of prime agriculture soils as described by the MPC as land used for agricultural purposes that contains soils of the first, second or third class as defined by the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resource and Conservation Services Centre County Soil Survey. This protection is provided through the restriction of activities that would promote the conversion of these lands to non-agriculture activities and forever diminish their agriculture value.
