Natural Heritage Protection District
The purpose of the Natural Heritage Protection District is to preserve the natural, scenic, and historic resources along the South Branch French Creek as identified in the Warwick Township Comprehensive Plan Addendum. This area is exemplary of Warwick Township’s unique natural landscape and cultural heritage. It contains several first order streams that drain into the South Branch French Creek. These waterways are all classified as Exceptional Value streams, which warrant special protection measures. It also contains several identified scenic viewsheds encompassing the rolling hills, stream valleys, and bucolic farmsteads that represent the Township’s unique landscape and that gave rise to the area’s culture and heritage. This connection between landscape and history is also evident in the large concentration of historic resources that exist here, including the Warwick Furnace National Register Historic District, The Reading Furnace National Register Historic District, the Revolutionary War Cemetery, Jacob Weimand’s House and Clover Mill, and numerous Class 1 and Class 2 resources.
