The house is named for ELIZABETH TRIPP (KENYON) BABCOCK (1809-1881). Elizabeth (Betsy) married Ethan Babcock (1789-1836) in 1827 The house is an excellent example of a 1.5 story Georgian style cottage. It features a large center chimney with several fireplaces, center entrance opening directly into a stairwell, front façade with windows centered on either side. The home 2 bed, 1.5 bath home is cozy and spacious all in one. Even with many updates the owners have meticulously restored many authentic features of this gem! The almost 1 acre of land is a masterpiece of gardens, plants and trees. There are several outbuildings and a gazebo to enjoy all of the beauty from. The exact origin of the house is yet to be determined. A dendrochronology study of selected timbers was done in March 2018, which identified several timbers cut in 1689 and others cut throughout the 1700s, and as late as 1797. The probable explanation for this is that the house was originally constructed 1689/1690 and underwent several major renovations/restorations throughout the 1700s. A major renovation/restoration took place with Betsy’s house in 2008-12, and it was then that we discovered and identified many of the clues enabling us to narrow the range of the origins of the house. That renovation included new insulated roof panels, sills, siding, complete second floor renovation, utility upgrading, wall insulation, and many cosmetic and appliance upgrades.
