'Dry Bridge' as listed in Old Homes of Hanover County pg. 77, was originally the overseer's cottage on Samuel Martin Baker's nearby farm. Mr. Baker farmed and ran a store in the house. There was a counter in the front hall. Dry Bridge extends from Old Ridge Road to the South Anna River. At the river one can see the brick foundations of the bridge spanning the river which the Northern troops burned. There was much fighting at this point and earth fortifications are still clearly visible. You'll discover an opportunity to restore a little piece of historic Hanover. Not for the faint of heart, while we believe the overall structure is sound, we did just loose about a 200 yr. old oak tree which struck the left wing corner-just another part of the restoration project.

A-1
Agricultural District
The purpose of this district is to provide for a full range of agricultural activities and to protect agricultural land, as one of the county's most valuable natural resources, from the depreciating effect of objectionable, hazardous, and unsightly uses. The district is also intended for protection of watersheds, water resources, forest areas, and scenic values, and at the same time to provide for spacious residential development for those who choose this environment and to prevent untimely scattering of more dense urban uses which should be confined to areas planned for efficient extension of public service.
