141± acres in four separately deeded lots, offered as one. A 1934 stone cottage, built from the salvaged stone of the mill that stood here since about 1772, sits on the largest parcel above the North Fork of Goose Creek. No conservation easement on any of the four lots. The land divides across the creek. On the north bank, in AR1 zoning, are 55.36 acres improved with the cottage and a detached garage, and an adjoining 65.02 acres. Both sit at the extreme southern end of historic Mount Gilead Road, named for the hamlet that once stood there. On the south bank, in AR2 zoning, are 10.1 and 12.2 acres, to be accessed in time from Lime Kiln Road. The cottage is two bedrooms and needs a full renovation. It is worth doing. Dark wood floors and paneled walls run through the interior, a stone fireplace anchors the main room under an open beamed ceiling, and the original mill stone forms the exterior walls. For a buyer building new, the obvious move is to site a principal residence on the acreage and keep the cottage as a guest house. The history is real and documented. The tract was deeded by Lord Fairfax to Elizabeth Hough in 1766. Coe’s Mill ground grain and shipped flour to the Port of Alexandria, was proposed in the 1850s as a canal terminal and a rail depot, and neither project was built. Parts of Lee’s army passed its walls retreating from Maryland. It ran as a woolen mill until 1886 and was wrecked by the 1889 flood. A bronze plaque on the surviving stone wall marks the site. What the photographs cannot convey is the quiet. Water, hardwoods, and no neighbors in sight. The next stewards may want to consider a conservation easement, which would protect the land permanently and may carry meaningful tax benefits. Land and improvements, sold together. Four lots, no easement, and a piece of Loudoun County history.
