Shoreland Wetland Holding District
The C-2 Shoreland Wetland Holding District is intended to preserve, protect, and enhance the ponds, streams, and wetland areas of the City of New Berlin. The preservation, protection, and enhancement of these areas will serve to maintain safe and healthful conditions; maintain and improve water quality, both ground and surface; prevent flood damage; control stormwater runoff; protect stream banks from erosion; protect groundwater recharge and discharge areas; protect wildlife habitats; protect native plant communities; avoid the location of structures on soils which are generally not suitable for use; and protect the water-based recreation resources of the City. Wetlands are unique and valuable natural resources that are becoming rare in Wisconsin and have many benefits, including: Filtering nutrients and sediments out of water, keeping our lakes and streams clean; Reducing flood damage by storing runoff from heavy rains or snow melt; Spawning and nursery areas for fish; Homelands to water fowl, songbirds, pheasants, fur-bearing animals, and a number of rare and endangered animals and plant species; Buffer adjacent uplands against erosion; Provide scenic beauty to our community
