Real estate in Hawaii
Aloha, Oahu! I am so excited to announce that I am opening a Redfin office here on the island where I was born and raised. I was introduced to Redfin, a national real estate brokerage, while living in Seattle, and I couldn’t wait to come back here and bring this unique approach to real estate to people on Oahu.

I will be based in Honolulu, and people on Oahu will be able to work with me or another agent on my team to buy and sell homes. So when you aren’t spending time with loved ones or surfing the waves, surf the web and see every home on the market with the Redfin website and iOS and Android apps. When you find something you like, or if you have a question about your local market, reach out to us!

MikeDemelloRedfinRealEstateI was born on Oahu and grew up in Pearl City and have spent most of my life on Oahu. Like so many other islanders, I left for a while to try out life on the mainland. When I found Redfin, I knew it was time to come back home and bring this top-notch technology and customer service with me.

Before being hired by Redfin to lead the local team on Oahu, I worked in real estate for many years. I got my start in real estate with Locations (at the time known as Prudential Locations) in 2002 as a broker and later became a partner. More recently I worked in banking. Now, back in the career (and home) of my calling, I’m introducing Redfin to my friends, family and neighbors.

The Aloha spirit is something I’ve always shared with my clients, treating them as Ohana when I help them buy or sell homes, and the mission of Redfin is right in line with my own approach to real estate. All Redfin agents earn a salary and receive health care and other benefits. Our bonus pay is based on customer satisfaction, not commission, which means we are motivated to do what is best for the customer at all times. And we have access to technology tools that help us work better for our customers while saving them money. We refund a portion of the commission to buyers at closing, and we charge a 1.5 percent listing fee rather than the typical 3 percent. I’m so proud to be a part of a company that not only wants to help people buy and sell homes with less stress, but also is able to save buyers and sellers money in the process!

Let me break it down for you. For a $650,000 home, a Redfin homebuyer in Hawaii would receive a refund of about $7,000 at closing. Someone selling a $650,000 home with a Redfin agent would save about $10,000, while still receiving a beginning-to-end home-selling service that starts with pricing and staging advice, 3D Matterport scanning technology and professional photography, and continues all the way through the negotiation and closing processes.

Speaking of technology, Redfin.com and the Redfin mobile apps offer several ways to find out about homes for sale and what the local market is like even before you’re ready to dip your toe in the water, including:

  • Instant Tour Scheduling: Ability to instantly schedule a home tour with a Redfin agent with a single click from a browser, iPhone, iPad or Android app.
  • Instant Updates: Smartphone or email notifications when new homes are listed or when prices drop.
  • Redfin Hot Homes: Proprietary algorithm that indicates which homes for sale are likely to sell within two weeks.
  • Redfin Home Value Tool: A more accurate way to find out what your home is worth using self-selected comparable homes for sale in your market.
  • Search by School: Shows all the homes for sale served by a certain school with one easy search.
  • Tour and Offer Insights: Real-time statistics and notes from Redfin agents about thousands of homes and offers.
  • Redfin 3D Walkthrough: High-resolution, interactive views from every angle inside homes listed with a Redfin agent.
  • Redfin Matchmaker: Software that recommends unexpected listings to Redfin clients.
  • Deal Room: A real-time guide through the closing process, including milestones, deadlines and tasks.

I’m now on Oahu touring homes with buyers and guiding them through the offer, negotiation and closing processes, and helping people sell their homes. If you’re thinking about buying or selling, feel free to reach out to to me directly to schedule a tour or start a conversation about your home’s value.

We’re looking forward to meeting you! My Redfin teammates and I will be throwing a party at the Cupola Theater in the Honolulu Design Center on March 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. that is open to the public. For every guest who attends the party, Redfin will donate $10 to the Ronald McDonald House. Food and drink is on us, but we ask that you please RSVP so we have plenty for everyone!

Download the Redfin app and follow Redfin on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest and LinkedIn to keep track of what we’re up to.
