Holiday décor doesn’t stop at the door

Roll out your festive cheer with a merry mailbox! Your mailbox is the first thing that Santa sees when he comes a-caroling, so spice it up with bows, ornaments, a wreath, or even solar lights. Spread the spirit by sprucing up your street with some mailbox mistletoe. Make sure your mail is protected by a locking security mailbox, like the MailBoss. Mail thieves and package grinches will surely stay clear during this season of cheer. – MailBoss

Give your entryway the holiday treatment

When holiday guests start coming over, don’t you love giving them an entryway to “ohh” and “ahh” at? Front doorways are the first thing people see when they come to your house, so my holiday decorating tip is to make their visit extraordinary. Hang a wreath or teardrop swag on the front door, dress the doorway with a matching garland, and flank your entryway with Christmas tree topiaries. – Damon Oates, How to Make Wreaths

Add personality with custom décor or signs

Pick a few holiday pieces with a personal touch such as a wreath sign or custom stocking tags. Choosing neutral wooden pieces like these ones help your décor pass the test of time too. – Courtney Herman – POPPYjack Shop

Think outside the box

Don’t try to keep up with the Joneses (or the Griswolds) next door, think outside the box and let your personality shine with your décor, like this beautiful tree our friends at the Johnson County Christmas Bureau contributed to the Holiday Boutique and auctioned off by The Johnson County Christmas Bureau at our annual show, with proceeds helping families less fortunate celebrate Christmas. Instead of the top of the tree being a run of the mill star, it’s topped with a mannequin wearing a dress, making it the perfect addition for any fashionista’s holiday celebration.- Holiday Boutique (Kansas City)

Incorporate nature into your holiday décor arrangements

My favorite holiday decorating tip is to combine fruit and evergreens to create beautiful arrangements on your mantle and centerpieces for your table. Add some cloves in some oranges or pair green apples with a mix of evergreens. – Harbor Farm

Consider a classic combo – greenery and lights

A little bit of fresh greenery and a strand or two of twinkle lights go a long way. It’s an easy way to add festivity and coziness to a small space, and perfect for anyone who prefers a bit more minimalism in their holiday décor. – Maya McNeal, Magically Maya

Try choosing a theme and then stick to it

For example, you may choose to decorate with a collection of Santas, or pick a color theme like silver and red. Make sure you choose decorations that work together, especially in rooms that open onto one another. – Carol Fisher Decor by Carol Fisher LLC

Create a cozy atmosphere with candles

In Scandinavia we use real candles on our Christmas tree and in decorations in our home. I translated this Scandinavian tradition to a fire safe California version by using LED lights that look exactly like the real candles on our Christmas tree. I use real candles when I place my hand made Christmas decorations in groups around my home and the candle light enhances the cozy Holiday atmosphere. – Trine Dahl Klubien, florist and owner of Blomst LA, daily flower delivery in LA

Wreaths aren’t just for front doors

Place a fresh Christmas wreath on an entry table or dining table to add natural color and fragrance to your room’s holiday décor. Add multiple pillar candles of varying heights to a full-size wreath or a mason jar candle to a mini wreath to bring light and additional fragrance. (No cords or batteries needed!) – Kimmswick Candle Co.

Incorporate a unique floral design in your home

Looking for a unique and festive holiday floral idea for the home? Fresh tinted roses come in a variety of colors and designs – you can even get sparkly or snowy glitter! Not only are these sure to impress family and friends, they are shipped direct from the farm ensuring high quality and freshness. – Flower Explosion

Add warmth and coziness to your holiday décor with natural materials like wood and wool

And use soft neutrals like greys and creams to up the hygge factor. Don’t be afraid to use unconventional materials—instead of a fresh wreath that will dry up quickly, opt for a minimalist wool wreath to add simple elegance to your home throughout the winter, even after the holidays are over. The best part is that wool is a sustainable fiber, so there is none of the guilt of buying plastic artificial greenery. – Jules Pécaut Owner, Juliette Pécaut Designs
