So you want to become a real estate agent? Are you the person who can’t drive by an open house without stopping to check it out. Your favorite channel is HGTV. You use the Redfin app more than any other on your phone. Your friends come to you with any and all real estate questions. You don’t want to work the traditional Monday through Friday, 9 to 5. You want to help people with one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. You decide that the real estate industry is the right career path for you.
Now what?
Obtain Your Real Estate License
The first step in beginning a real estate career is to obtain your real estate license. Licensing requirements vary by state, so be sure to check out what’s needed. Almost all states require a pre-licensing course. Some states allow online completion, while others require in-person classes. Pre-licensing course timelines vary from as little as a few weeks up to almost a year. You’ll also have to apply and take a real estate examination. Once you pass the exam, different steps happen to depend on your state. Check your state’s website.
Join a Real Estate Brokerage
In order to practice real estate, you must hang your license with a brokerage. Many people spend time during the pre-licensing courses checking out which brokerage might be right for them. There are tons of choices!
One of those brokerage choices (and probably the best one) is Redfin. At Redfin, we’re reinventing an entire industry, which isn’t something you get to do every day. We’re making real estate better through our focus on the customer and awesome technology. When you’re considering where you want to start your real estate career, why wouldn’t you want to join the best?
Why Join Redfin
Redfin’s team structure makes it an ideal place to start a real estate career. We have different job opportunities ranging from our independent contractor Associate Agents to our full-time Deal Writing Agents. You’re surrounded by experienced real estate agents willing and ready to support you and answer questions. Plus we have our own in-house training team!
Another great reason to join Redfin is that we bring customers to you. As a new agent at another brokerage, you would have to spend quite a bit of time (and probably money) searching for clients wanting to buy and sell homes. At Redfin, we provide the customers so you get to focus on what you love – helping them find and purchase their dream home.
Finally, Redfin is changing the game in how we compensate our employees. Our agents are paid a base salary plus bonuses based on customer satisfaction. Additionally, as employees, our agents are eligible for health-care benefits for themselves and their families.
The Redfin Recruiting Process
The recruiting process is similar to that for other positions outside of real estate. You can apply online, and if your experience matches what we’re looking for, you’ll go through a couple of interviews and meet a few team members. In the end, we’ll both decide if it’s a good fit.
Do you have what it takes to be a Redfinnian? First and foremost, we’re looking for people who match our values. We want agents who are obsessed with providing top-notch customer service. We’re searching for candidates who can embrace all the cutting-edge technology Redfin agents have at their fingertips. And, we want people who wake up each morning ready to bite the butt of a bear and get the job done.
