I saw this houseboat listed for sale on craigslist.org for $175,950 (it actually says $175,950,00 but I’m sure that is a typo). I have a friend who lives on his own houseboat in Sausalito and I’ve also rented houseboats for family get-togethers on the Delta and always enjoy it. This could be an alternative to buying a house. Really – I’m serious. It could even be the answer for global warming. Okay, that’s stretching it. But some houseboats are really cool. Houseboats are a community in their own right, much like RV’rs. No land taxes but instead there are mooring fees, which are usually cheaper.
Houseboats are just as comfortable as houses with some adjustments to your lifestyle. Mainly sewer, water, and electricity. Also, weather is definitely a consideration. Another alternative would be to rent it out to vacationers to help pay for it if you didn’t want to live in it. But I like it for a future retirement abode. Lots of different ways to handle this type of home ownership.
