Sibleywood. A woodsy little community located within Enatai (West Bellevue, west of Bellevue Way, north of I-90). Big lots, nice houses, secret forest appeal. Throw in a community pool and tennis courts and a walking trail that leads to downtown Bellevue and you’ve got the makings of a very sweet spot to call home.
The house I toured is a true guilty pleasure for a mid-century modern purist–the owner took a beautiful mid-century modern home and ran with it, keeping the clean open lines and dramatic spaces but putting in updates that are sure to please in ’07.
Features like your jetted tub with a fireplace over it, through which you can peek through into the master bedroom, expensive stainless appliances, “Kumaru” hardwood floors (they sort of resembled Cherry to me, with more color variation, which blended nicely with the striking original brick wall that surrounds the fireplace on the first floor). But the integrity of the original design was kept throughout.
The helpful listing agent showed me pictures of the house before the remodel and it was beautiful then, too. Designed by Tucker & Shields, Northwest architects of note during the mid-century modern period, their style has been described as Modern Miesian (after Mies Van der Rohe, a ‘pioneering master’ of geometric, minimalist modernism). I can’t help but feel they’d approve of the graceful and–let’s face it–useful updates, like insulated windows.
The downstairs is huge. Lots of room (and rooms) down there.
